Evans Hybrid Soft Marching Snare Drum Head - Product Information

Evans Hybrid-S batter features two unique fibers that, when blended together, deliver a soft and sensitive feel with a warm, full, and tonally rich sound with superior snare response desired by the world's top marching ensembles. Without sacrificing durability, the Evans Hybrid Soft drumheads achieve a softer feel perfect for younger hands, and wider response that makes smaller lines sound big.

Not too bad!

Comments:

A little softer sound than we were expecting. Besides having to crank it near scary levels this head sounds great! It allows a smaller line to cut through the ensemble with great clarity!

doesn't last

Comments:

this is a neat idea for a head...the problem is that you will need to change them much more often than a similar woven head (like the hybrid grey or white). if your players keep a consistent beating spot, you'll find that the center of the head goes dead. I guess it has something to do with the fibers or the weave. we used these for one season and had to change twice as often as normal. I don't recommend this head for repetitive daily use (like a typical marching band season).

not what I expected

Comments:

First thing I noticed is the fiber weave is a lot bigger then any other aramid fiber drumheads out there. I assume that plays a part in the softness of the head. Once we put them on, I cranked and cranked and cranked. It took a long time to bone up the head to playable. The sound was boxy. almost mylar sounding with not as much resonance, it cut the snare response down quite a bit. I really had high expectations for this head. For a smaller snareline, this might not be the head for you. We switched back to the greys after two weeks. it does as advertised, its much softer then anything else out there. The draw backs are it requires daily tuning (our rims got very low, almost to the bearing edge ) I would not recommend this head for snare lines three or under players. With full ensemble playing our snares (2) got lost. That never happened with any other head we used.
