Evans MX1 White Marching Bass Drum Head

The MX1s can be tuned throughout a very wide range. Among five (Pearl) bass drums, I can separate them low to high more than an octave and a half, and could go wider on the low end, but the head would become floppy and create an unwanted plastic-slappy sound. To keep lower drums from endlessly ringing, using the inside dampeners is a must, and that can take a long time but it also gives you the freedom to dampen the heads as much or little as you want. They really cut through the band's sound at all pitches, but once you pass a certain pitch on the upper scale, the sound gets cut off very quickly. Each note is very well articulated; runs and fast rhythms are clearly discernible at any distance. They also last a long time. I've only seen two get broken (at separate times); one was on the drum for almost a year and tuned insanely tight on high bass, and on the other, the hoop pulled from the head after being overly tightened in one spot. They're a great head and I have yet to find one I enjoy using more.
