The Evans Orchestral Snare Drum head is a great-sounding head with a better feel, in my opinion, than the also-excellent Remo Renaissance orchestral snare heads. Neither quite rivals calfskin in good weather, but both are much better in wet weather. The Evans is my favorite head for all seasons.

Coating issues

Generally, I like Evans. But I have also had issues with the coatings on their heads sticking to the boxes and anything else that comes in contact with it. I moved from PA to TX a few years back and while the moving truck was hot and on the road for 2 weeks, the only heads that came out damaged were the Evans. Something is messed up with the coating they use, but the heads sound great.

Coating is too fragile. It sticks to the packing box and if you pack it in a soft case ,the coating will stick to the case too.

Great sound. Nice and open. Responses well on my Grover from ppp to fff! Plus I don't have to sacrifice sensitivity for coating, so I can still use brushes on this head. Dont worry about the staccato ring, throw a damper on this guy and you're golden.
