Evans UV1 Coated Drum Head

I have these on my snares (both are Ludwig metal snares) and toms (Yamaha birch custom absolute.) They have some of the warmth that you get from the G1s but also a sort of boosted attack and projection that you get from the G2s. I like the coating because I also use this drumset for jazz, with brushes. They have a great tone at soft and loud dynamics. On the snare I get more of an open sound that sometimes requires muffling depending on the room, and the head feels slightly thicker and more rigid than a G1 or ambassador, but it's a subtle difference. I'm very impressed with the UV1s.

I've had this head on my grandfather's first snare drum (an old Ludwig acrolite) after the head previously on there had dents from another drummer at my church beating on it all crazy. I only got it today from my local music store and put it on as soon as I got home, and to my surprise it has met my expectations and has a great feel on it too! No signs of stick markings or anything, and it is made to last! To me, it is like an Ambassador on steroids, and I am pleased to now be one of the many to try this head out!

I'm a Evans drum heads only person . . . With that said on to the review and why I chose the new Evans UV! coated Snare batter head for my new Mapex Armory Exterminator 6.5"X14". The snare out of the box came with brand "A" coated batter and snare side heads, I never gave e'm a chance and off they went. So I did some research and thought I try the Evans coated G1 and a Evans 300 Hazy snare side heads, and that combination didn't get the job done on my Mapex so back to the drawing board. Now with my home work complete from watching videos and checking with Evans web-sight, I picked out the 200 Hazy (Snare side) and the new UV1 coated batter. Now that sound coming from my new 14" Exterminator with those two new Evans heads is incredible . . . That is what I wanted to hear. I use a lot of brushes, rods and broomsticks and I get wonderful articulation.
