Grover John Tafoya General Bamboo Timpani Mallets - Product Information

The Grover Pro Percussion John Tafoya Signature Mallets use very high quality bamboo shafts that are slightly shorter and thinner than the Artist’s Choice bamboo mallets. The dimensions are 15″ length by approximately 7/16″ diameter. The bamboo is finished using an amino flat finish that is both easy to grip and protects the bamboo from the elements. All shafts are hand-paired by weight, color and feel to ensure proper balance.

Quality wool felts are hand-sewn over radial wood cores that provide a perfect balance of sonic “attack” and “body”. The “inverted” layering of the felt is used so that extra clarity is produced across a very wide dynamic spectrum. The TMB-T1 is a general timpani mallet.

Designed in collaboration with renowned timpanist John Tafoya. “These mallets have been designed to deliver a super clear sound over a huge dynamic range. The bamboo is excellent and each mallet contains a custom rounded core. These terrific mallets are perfect for auditions!“ – John Tafoya.

Please note that bamboo is a natural product. While we go to great lengths to pair shafts, variations in color, diameter, and straightness may occur.

different definition, different taste

Comments:

I really like the Grover mallets. However when I bought the T1s I didn't expect them to be as staccato as they turned out to be. They were too close to the Black Swamp and Duff mallets I own. Fortunately Steve Weiss made it easy to return these in exchange for the T4s, which to my taste are much preferred as general mallets. De gustibus non disputantum est.

Well made

Comments:

Well balanced, very light in the hand with just enough forward weight to produce an excellent sound easily. The spherical core provides a very even tone, and at that point the sound you want out of the stick is up to how you strike the drum. The bamboo is smooth and seamless.10/10 high quality series!

Great for General Playing

Comments:

These are some of the best general playing mallets I've ever used. A perfect balance between articulation and producing deep, resonant tones you typically get with softer, legato mallets. The bamboo shafts are light and sturdy, and feel great to handle and play! Overall, excellent!

Wonderful!

Comments:

Great mallets. Sound really good for solo playing and many ensemble situations. Good versatile, all purpose mallet and is on the light side. The bamboo is great though, smooth, strong, and consistent.
