Innovative worked closely with Chris Lamb to develop this line of mallets to meet the unique timbre possibilities that the xylophone can create. Each model in this series is weighted and balanced for optimal feel and sound. The Xylophone has a wide swath of musical potential from comically clever to powerhouse presence sometimes needed in a concert hall. The Chris Lamb Series is designed to bring all these elements into the players performance.

Hard rubber

Comments:

Personally, I would call these hard or very hard rubber, not "medium soft." They are roughly the same hardness as the Freer hard rubber model. The balance is quite nice though, and the 1 1/16" ball walks the line really nicely between a 1" and a 1 1/8". I am not a fan of the rattan Innovative uses; it's too thick and feels a little cheap compared to other companies. Thought it might be thinner rattan for this line of mallets but it's not. Glad I tried them, but would not buy again.

Warm, but hard rubber

Comments:

I'm not sure if there's a better rubber mallet out there, but this is the perfect mallet for solo xylophone literature, both in ensemble and purely solo work. Focused on wood and temple blocks. The top register of the xylophone is just as clear as the rest of the instrument.

a much needed addition

Comments:

These are especially great mallets for xylophone solo repertoire. The weighted core takes some getting used to, but the consistency of sound I can get across the range of the instrument is quite nice and that very aspect makes controlling musical details that much easier. Not to mention, all the mallets in this series are incredibly well built. For practice and performance, I find myself reaching for these everyday.

Best rubber mallets ever

Comments:

Normally, I avoid using rubber mallets as much as I can. I don't like to practice with a mallet that feels very different than what I'll perform with, and I hate the bouncy rubber feel of most rubber mallets. These, however, have an excellent feel that is very similarly weighted to the other mallets in the collection. It has the feel of a plastic mallet and not a rubber superball. I love it. Well done!
