These are excellent drums for the money. Whatever the finish is, it's pretty durable and does not seem to scratch easily. The drums in combination with the included heads are very dry, crisp and easy to tune. Plenty loud and good response without hitting hard. The heads are natural hide and have some imperfections/rough spots. They don't look great but they sound very, very good. Being a natural hide head you don't want to hit these with sticks as they will split. The heads on the bongos I received came very dry. Probably from sitting in a warehouse for some time. A little bit of eucerine or other decent hand cream (a little goes a long way) will make them last longer. Since I'm mentioning the heads, remo makes fiberskin heads that will fit these drums, which is really helpful if you are using these outdoors or with sticks. The drums have some heft to them, I think this is because the hoops are not super thin metal like other less expensive bongos. Overall these are really nice drums for the money spent.
