Malletech Ed Smith ELS16 Medium Hard Rattan Vibraphone Mallets - Product Information

The new Ed Smith ELS16 medium hard vibe mallet from Malletech has a complex, multi-layered construction that creates the "sweet sound spot". Vibe mallets tend to be eiither too hard and clanky at high volume or lacking in definition and clarity at low dynamics. These shortcomings were engineered out of the sound through a two-year process of research and development which combines three internal core components and a two-layered winding program. The yarn is Malletech Proprietary Nylon which is often copied but never duplicated. It produces a clean and slap-free attack. This durable yarn lasts for many, many years of creative music making. Rattan handles.

Love 'em

Comments:

I agree with all the reviews before me except the first that suggests they aren't worth the money and they fall apart the first week. I suppose if you are mostly hitting the frame and suspension posts, they might not last a year (A week? Give me a break.), but I like the sound of hitting the bars better. The sound is the best of all my mallet sets for general playing. Rich tone with the perfect amount of percussive sound to distinguish the note without being mushy. Yes, they aren't cheap. But I am expecting MANY years of play based on the minimal wear to date.

Smith mallets are too expensive for the quality

Comments:

The worst mallets I ever bought, they last for about a week before bending and fraying. Spend the additional money for good mallets that will last. Balter, Allbright. While cheap they are still overpriced

Super Projection

Comments:

Ever since my custom Big Head Medium Hard ABC's broke down, I've been searching for a set of mallets with enough weight to produce the fullest and warmest fundamentals of my vibes and still cut through in the highs. The other day a student of mine brought these mallets to a lesson. He had by accident bought four pairs of these instead of two, and after trying them I immediately bought the two pairs off him. I absolutely love the fullness and richness these mallets bring out of the bars of my Deagan Aurora, and they sound great at all levels. The articulation is clearly defined when playing very soft passages and raises to a roar when hit hard. These are highly recommendable all round vibes mallets.

Superior Vibraphone Mallets

Comments:

These are some of the best sounding vibraphone mallets you can buy. They produce a warm tone with minimal contact sound, but they have enough articulation for almost anything you can play. Great all-around mallets. Also, great color!

Fantastic Mallets

Comments:

These new Malletech mallets are wonderful. They have clear definition in attack, as well as a full bodied presence of tone. Feel great in the hands and sounds really good at all levels of dynamics and velocities. They are quickly becoming my favorite line of vibraphone mallets I have played with.
