A Must Have for Late Night Practice!

Comments:

Malletech Late Nite Series Super Soft Mallets - Birch Handles are a must have for anyone who lives in apartment or likes to practice at night when others are sleeping. They are also a wonderful way to protect your hearing! Most standard marimba mallets reach a volume that frequently approach the 80-decibel level (anything over 80 can harm your hearing eventually). These mallets are nicely weighted on the lighter side, so they reduce fatigue during long practice sessions. I practice with these all the time while learning new pieces, and then I switch to my usual mallets when it gets closer to performance time to get reacquainted with the sound and feel of them again.

Great mallets to use to playing silently

Comments:

When do first heard that these mallets make no sound I thought to myself "say what???" To be fair, they are not completely silent: but they are nearly silent. They are great when you want to practice quietly (late at night, in an apartment, etc.). And, of course Steve Weiss gives great service.

These are great!

Comments:

I was a little skeptical about trying these, but my constant practicing was driving may family crazy, so I gave them a try and was very pleasantly surprised. I bought two pairs for 4 mallet practice. They are a little longer than my normal mallets. I usually use Mike Balter Contemporary Marimba Mallets which have 16 5/8" long shafts. I think these are 17". So, I trimmed them down 3/8 of an inch, sanded them smooth, and they work great! I liked them so much, I went back and bought another 2 pair of the Malletech Late Nite Series Soft Mallets, which have a little bit more attack. Both are great! Although I initially bought them to appease my family, I happily discovered they were also much kinder to my own ears. I never really realized how loud a marimba can be at times. These mallets have a bit more bounce than I am used to, but I quickly got used to going back and forth between these and my performance mallets. Overall, I am happy with them! I can practice pretty much any time I want now with no complaints!

A life-changer!

Comments:

As an apartment dweller, these mallets changed my life. I can now practice marimba any time without worrying about bothering my family or neighbors. They work as advertised - just loud enough to be heard at most 2-3 feet away from the marimba. Unsurprisingly, they do have a very different feel than regular mallets - much "springier," I guess you could say. So I have found myself returning to regular mallets when polishing a piece. But for all the hours it takes to learn a piece of music, these are now pretty much the only mallets I use.

Late Night Mallets

Comments:

I live in a apartment and have been looking for something like this for a long time, not sure how I missed these. They work pretty on my vibe. I can strike the keys in a normal playing fashion without disturbing my girlfriend while she is watching tv in the living room or sleeping in the bedroom which is right next to the spare room where I play my vibe. Also, not disturbing the neighbors in my thin walled apartment building. My only issues with them are the handles are quite long, longer than my other mallets (I'll cut them down at some point) and because of the size of the head, you need to be intentional about where you're striking the keys. It doesn't take much to getting used to though and allows me to practice late in the evening or late at night which is my usual time. I'm very satisfied and glad I found these.
