Malletech M-Tech 4.3 Octave Padouk Marimba - Product Information

M-Tech Marimbas by Malletech deliver a premium orchestral quality sound and classy design at a favorable price point. This 4.3 octave instrument features padouk bars rivaling rosewood in warmth and depth of sound. The frame marries form and function with its beautiful finished wood design, easy height adjustability and durability. Malletech fixed tuning resonators project the natural robust sound of the Padouk.

  • Height: with height-adjustment fully retracted - 34.5" (floor to accidental bars), can safely extend to 39" (floor to accidentals) You may be able to get another inch past that, but stability of instrument could be compromised
  • Width: high endboard - 16", low endboard - 35"
  • Length: 82"

It's okay

Comments:

I've had this marimba since late Nov of 2019. The sound is very nice. It definitely sounds like a marimba. Seriously, unless you have it right next to a rosewood you probably wouldn't know it's a different wood. I appreciate the sturdy frame but the paint/finish on the frame (wood components) chips off more easily than I expected. My marimba had arrived with some damaged bars and rails but SW and Malletech were pretty quick to address the issue. Customer support is A+! The marimba was only shipped in two big boxes. Maybe the shipping method will change though. I'd prefer the bars be in their own box when shipped. A big plus to this instrument is that it's tuned prior to being sent to you. Once I had all my bars back from repair, the board sounds pretty great and has held its tuning. I would recommend this marimba to anyone who wants an instrument that is: affordable, can fit right in on stage next to instruments 5x its price, and has a smooth sound. I feel we all want that! The components are beefy though! It's more difficult to haul this around compared to some other competitors like Adams. But the trade-off is you get natural spacing of bars and a professional looking frame with Malletech. This a solid investment for any percussion major or professional in-need of immediate access to their own marimba.

Malletech M-Tech 4.3

Comments:

I hemmed and hawed over which Marimba to get our 8th grade Daughter who has been playing double mallets for 2 years now. The school uses Adams marimbas and I wanted to maintain some familiarity between practicing and performances. Couple that with not actually getting to see or try one prior to ordering... and it was a surprise so I couldn't actually ask her opinion... It was a hair pulling decision. I'm SOOO glad I choose the M-Tech. It is built so well, all the materials are clean, well constructed real wood with a nice finish. And it sounds AMAZING..... Having the ability to practice when she can rather than only when the school is open has encouraged her to try more challenging pieces for S&E. AND she gets to perform on the same instrument that she practices on..... Its a win win. Money well spent.
