Malletech Soloist Series SO14 Medium Hard Birch Marimba Mallets

Medium hard with a red label. This medium-hard mallet is a good general use mallet for both rolling and struck note passage work.

The four models of the Soloist line were designed with a simple rubber core and yarn wrapping to achieve an “old-fashioned” tone, but without yarn slap. The yarn is similar to the yarn on the Stevens line, in that it has a distinct lack of “chiff”, slap and contact sound. This results in a great dynamic shading ability. Unlike most other marimba mallets, all the models except the SO2’s are weighted identically, so that there is virtually no difference in “feel” when switching from model to model. All Soloist models are single-toned. All are on birch shafts.
