Malmark El Guapo Mahogany Cajon - Product Information

El Guapo "The handsome" is considered to be the flagship of the Malmark Cajon family. The body is made up of solid 3/4" mahogany and an 1/8" mahogany playing surface is all glued to produce a deep clear resonate bass tone. One of the best bass tones produced by any cajon. The sound is balanced out with a crisp and present slap tone. Snare wires are added in the precise place to provide balance and exception tonal response. This drum is constructed and sanded by hand.

I am absolutely enchanted by this cajon. Not only am I surprised that so much nuance can come out of a wooden crate, but I am amazed how much thought and craftsmanship went into this instrument. Malmark engineered the snares such that the snare action remains restricted to the upper third of the striking surface which allows the bass notes to ring out with only minimal snare sound. The sound? Articulate, nuanced, and big (if you need it to). Its relatively large dimensions afford a deep and resonant bass sound while the snare comes across as crisp and distinct, even when played softly. The overall tone I'd liken to a baritone, if that's a thing for cajons.
