I love this thing! I use it with a Pearl clave block and it's great because you can adjust the length of the beater using a screw, to position it exactly where it needs to go. The head of the beater is very large, and I'm pretty sure more sound could be created from a smaller plastic mallet but it works and you don't have to hit it hard at all if set correctly.
