Morales-Matos-Variations on a Lament Theme-8 congas - Product Information
Variations on a Lament Theme for 8 congas was inspired by the loss of a great man, Steve Weiss.
The theme came out of a composition of mine titled "A Lament for percussion quartet" where the melody is played on Timpani.
These variations utilize the main melody, which is the Lament part of the piece, to explore the emotions that can be created by the players' intensity and understanding of what it is to lament.
The piece duration is from 7-15 minutes. The player is in charge of the time, depending on the capability to develop their improvisations. It's important for the player to be able to use ostinatos (rhythm patterns) as accompaniment to the melodies.
-Rolando Morales-Matos
