Naito-Nanafushi arr. Crowell (SP)-P - Product Information

Nanafushi by Tetsuro Naito arranged for percussion trio by Jeffery Crowell. Originally arranged for the famous Japanese taiko group Kodo, Crowell was fascinated with the piece and wanted to see if its spirit and energy could be distilled down from a large, authentic ensemble of taiko drummers to a small chamber ensemble of three players. For this arrangement, the performers use their hands and both feet to blaze through the energetic work. Written in a "pseudo swing" rhythmic interpretation (not straight, not swung, but somewhere in between) and featuring an abundance of soloistic flair, this piece is sure to keep listeners on the edge of their seats. Duration: 6 minutes

Instrumentation:
2 sets of bongos, 2 congas, 2 floor toms, 2 kick drums, 2 small concert bass drums to be played with a foot pedal on each, Asian, "jing" style cymbals (pair) (sometimes called chappas), high and low clave (or high woodblocks with distinctly different pitches)
