Pearl Philharmonic Concert Snare Drum - African Mahogany 15x8 - Product Information

The Pearl Philharmonic 15″ × 8″ African Mahogany Concert Snare Drum with Wood Hoops is sure to be a collectors item that is as beautiful to look at as it is to play.

This Special Production Concert Snare Drum features an 4-ply African Mahogany shell with maple reinforcement rings that produces incredible overall tonality with a slight emphasis on low end tone. The 15″ × 8″ shell size and unique synthetic gut snares produce a true “concert march” sonic quality that would make J.P. Sousa proud, while still providing a “here and now” quality that will translate over to a wider range of song selection.

In addition to the 4-ply 15″ × 8″ shell wifh full rounded bearing edges, this drum also features maple hoops, 8 chrome tube lugs with insulated low profile chrome claw hooks, an SR500 Triad Strainer system with 2 sets of synthetic gut snares and 1 set of heavy coated cable snares, Remo Diplomat batter and Renaissance snare side heads.

Pearl Philharmonic Concert Snare Drum

Comments:

With a wooden shell, this snare has a beautiful "dark" sound. The synthetic gut snares provide a crisp snap combined with the other snare wires and evoke the martial sound I've been looking for in a snare drum. The snare is truly a work of art, a showcase piece if you will; and will sure to amaze other percussionists when brought on stage for performances. This was money well spent, and I thank Pearl and Steve Weiss for bringing this snare drum to my percussion inventory.

A modern sound for a classic drum

Comments:

This is my favorite field drum/traditional rudimental sound for ensembles and solo work. Compared to a 14x12, the wider head allows a lower pitch at higher tension, which feels and sounds great. The shallower shell gets quick and clean snare response, and the gut combination is dark, fast, clean and throaty. As a person who was always frustrated by the whiny, washy, wet sound of 14x12 drums, this is a dream come true. I use it all the time.

Beautiful Work of Art You Can Beat with Sticks

Comments:

This vintage-sounding snare drum is beautiful in appearance and sound. I missed out on the first version of this Pearl African Mahogany 15 x 8 snare drum, the gloss finish, reddish African mahogany finish. This is actually better as it fits seamlessly with my collection of other snare drums such as the Pearl 14 x 12 Philharmonic Field Drum. Beautifully made and finished. The rounded bearing edges of the shell along with the Remo Renaissance heads produce that tasty, full-bodied sound of old wooden snare drums. The strainer is a sophisticated mechanism allowing excellent control of the snare wires. I may explore the ability to install real gut snares for a more old world sound. Not cheap but worth it.
