Pearl Signature Congas Bobby Allende - Cafe Con Leche - Product Information

Bobby Allende is a mainstay in the New York Latin Music Scene. He demands the best out of his drums, so his design for congas and bongos will certainly exceed all standards.

To start, you will notice that the seam is invisible giving the Fiberglass congas a Wood look about them. The height is 28 inches fitting the traditional seated player perfectly while adding extra width to the base for added projection and stability. A new rim design compliments both the congas and bongos adding extra comfort while complimenting the stock Remo Fiberskyn 3 heads.

Bobby Allende Congas - Review (Pearl)

Comments:

Unfortunately, there is a not a lot of reviews out there on congas. These Cafe Con Leche (coffee with milk) drums are some of the best congas I have played (great value). The Brown fade has a bronze tint to it (very attractive). Fiberglass has a lot of pop (will cut through a live band). They have some overtones to them, but I don't mind a little ring. They are lighter than wood drums and lighter than the LP pro fiberglass congas with carbon fiber inlays (your back will appreciate that). The heads that come with these drums totally work (Fiberskyn 3 heads). I purchased the Conga and Tumba and could not be happier (have already played them out on numerous gigs). One of the reasons I purchased these Pearl congas is the 28 inch height. Most congas today are 30". I sit low on a Cajon, so the shorter congas work better for me. The bowls will fit in traditional conga bags (not to fat). Anyone playing on wood floors will also appreciate the larger rubber gaskets on the base of the drums (stable). If I could change one thing, I wish manufacturers would reinstate the old side handles that make them easier to move the drums or get them in-and-out of cases. Hats off to my sales rep, Jim, was very helpful also!

High quality sound and feel

Comments:

4 rating because I've only played for about 15 minutes right after receiving the drum 12/21/2015. Need to put some miles on the drum before I might give it a 5. Drum is Bobby Allende signature quinto. Shell finish is glossier than website pictures show. Easy to tune. Fiberskyn 3 head is comfortable and sounds gooood - better than my 35+ year old LP with cowhide head and better than new LPs, Tocas, Meinls, and Tycoons that I've tried. Good tones and slaps. Actually produces a pretty good bass sound which many quintos don't. Gon Bops is as good but costs more, is wood and not fiberglass and therefore heavier, and is available with height no shorter than 30 inches. In my opinion, would be a bit better if a carrying handle was installed. It has a hardware piece on the shell for use on a stand with another conga - maybe I'll find a way to use that as a handle. The sound in the video, that I watched and listened to before I bought, does not do this drum justice - sounds way better personally playing it.
