Interesting Special Effect Instrument

Comments:

Pearl Vibra Bells are a unique sounding instrument that combine the sound and form of agogo bells with that of a vibra-slap. They are well made and the "bells" are about the size of large agogo bells, connected with a handle just like a vibra-slap. They produce a loud rattle of the two bells, which can also be played individually, with any suitable cowbell stickl. They could be used as a boisterous special effect, just like a vibra-slap. They can be shaken to produce a rhythm, but playing regular agogo bells with a stick is probably more accurate and easier. I found these for a ridiculously low price of $8.95 (plus shipping) on the bargain page. Now THAT is a real bargain.

Great idea, ok instrument

Comments:

I like the idea of an ago-go bell & a vibraslap in one. But there is just one thick metal pin or tongue in each of the bells as opposed to many small thin ones in a regular vibraslap. This causes it to be at once very loud (not so bad) & have a very fast decay (pretty limiting). Back to the drawing board please.

Nice sound.

Comments:

Recommended. A great loud, slightly tonal vibraslap effect that can be slapped against the leg, 'squeezed' one-handed like metal castanets or shaken like a maraca as well. I dunno if I'd compare it to an agogo. The bells do have notes, but the interval between them isn't typical of agogos and sounding them without triggering the vibraslap effect takes a rather tiny beater. I've no doubt this would cut through any (unplugged) band - it can hurt your ears while playing! For those curious about the sound, try here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrlnVTbGVFs
