Paulson-Phonology-4T - Product Information
Phonology by Glenn Paulson was written after the composer temporarily lost his ability to think and speak as a result of a severe mountain biking accident. Phonology, which is the study of speech sounds, was encouraged by the composer's brain team at the hospital during his recovery. Paulson describes this timpani solo as a "mean and potatoes type of piece." There is no pedaling, so the performer just needs to have the facility to get around the drums, play many rolls of varying colors, and has the creative freedom to make the piece his or her own. Duration: 8'30".
