Remo Emperor Coated Drum Head

Comments:

More durable than the Ambassador and dampens some of the high overtone ring to an extent. Coating is good for brushwork. I've been using Remo heads for a long time and they are always consistently good quality.

Emperor coated makes a great head to modify

Comments:

I put this puppy on a used Ludwig 12 by 15 marching snare drum that was a free gift. I had some Hinger snares that I wanted to use and Terry Cornett of Heritage Drums added a very deep snare bed to the drum. It had a Ludwig Classic strainer so the original snare bed was very shallow and wide. The Remo Diplomat snare side head worked out perfectly with a modified Emperor batter head. I replaced the original snare strainer with an "Inde" brand that has vertical slots for varying spacing so I did not have to drill any new holes. I cut the inner layer of the batter head out using an Exacto knife and curved scissors to make a Hinger style head. I left an inch and a half of the inner head on the circumference of the head to act as a muffling ring. This gives a great sound for a concert style field drum. The Ludwig drum has an aluminum ring on the top of the shell with a steep bearing edge but the head worked out fine.

Remo coated Emporer

Comments:

I wanted this head for a classic sound on a 14x12 marching snare, 70's style! Absolutely great tone.
