Remo djembe skyndeep head

Comments:

First of all I'm very happy with Steveweissmusic. They actually have stock ready to ship, instead of taking your money then ordering the the product you just bought. Which in the case of Remo can be months before you get what you ordered. Now for the Remo heads. On my LP Palladium congas (conga and tumba) and my LP Gen II Bongos I have put the tucked Fiberskyn 3 heads. They sound incredible! Unfortunately Remo doesn't make one for my 14" super tumba. One of the studios I played at have Remo heads on their congas, and they have the skyndeep heads. Playing head banging hard rock, with the the guitars playing through very loud Mesa Boggie, and Marshall amps, and a full drum kit, I was able to cut through the mix with just the congas, no microphones. This sparked me to buy used Remo Djembe's. I now have Reno Mondo 12" and 16" drums. From what I understand the Skyndeep heads are the best for Djembe's. I also learned from Remo that the life span of the mondo heads are 4 months if the are played heavy every day. The used 16" mondo drum I bought was 9 years old, was in still in like new condition (even though the the head was pretty beat up), it had the original Fiberskyn 3 head, and was used in a home studio. The original head was still playable and sounded good. When I pulled off the old head and thumped on the head with my thumb it was no longer in tune. When I pulled out the new Skyndeep and thumped it, it was in perfect tune. When I installed it, I tuned it to the lowest major note which was an A at 220 Hz. I have finally found an accurate way to do lug tuning. When I hit the center of the head it was at a perfect A at 55 Hz, a couple of octaves lower. Very impressive. I have called Remo up a number of time now to get information. I must say that their customer service is excellent.

Skyndeep Remo Head

Comments:

Remo truly makes the best of the best. I switched to the Skyndeep because I wanted more snap in my playing. It has more tonal definition which ideally I wanted for all my acoustic sessions. If your looking to brighten your djembe sound I recommend this head. I fitted my bongos too from buffalo skin to the Remo skyndeep and the difference is astonishing. Way better tone. Thanks Remo & Steve Weiss Music team! Joel Nashville TN
