Remo Practice Pad - 10" Tunable - Product Information

PRACTICE PADS are a longtime staple for beginning drummers to serious students in college-level methods classes.

These tunable pads duplicate the tension and response of a real drum, but offer a "muffled" sound for quieter practice. This 10" PRACTICE PAD comes with a Coated AMBASSADOR drumhead housed in a high-impact gray plastic housing.

PRACTICE PADS have become so legendary because their use accentuates the intricacies of proper techniques. A major advantage of a PRACTICE PADS over an easier substrate is its impossible to distinguish between the all-important grace notes and principal notes on a softer alternative rendering the practice meaningless.

Not what they used to be

Comments:

My dad has one of these that's 30 years old and it plays beautifully. I had an older one I bought used from a local shop, and it also played nice. The beauty of these pads is that they are an actual head. They replicate the change in feel from center to edge and allow you to hear everything you are doing. Anyone who has practiced buzz rolls on gum rubber knows it feels nothing like a drum. Overall, these pads offer a more accurate feel than the gum rubber pads. I recently lost my older pad and bought a new one to replace it and was severely disappointed. The counter hoop warps under any significant tension, which prevents one from tensioning the head up to the proper tension. And I mean concert tension, not marching tension. Mine currently has washers under the tension bolts to keep them from tearing through the holes and I still can't crank it up to a reasonable tension.
