Remo Silent Stroke Mesh Drum Head - Product Information
The Remo Silent Stroke drumheads are mesh practice heads designed to give you realistic feel in almost complete silence. Turn any drum or drum set into the ultimate practice tool by simply swapping out the head. Works great for either marching or drum set drummers.
I have a bop kit and bought silent stroke heads for all my drums including a 16" bass drum head. They are great for practicing. Paired with low volume cymbals, I'm able to play at full volume in my basement while my 4 young kids sleep on the second floor of my two story house. My only complaint is the 16" bass drum head. Save yourself $10 and buy the 16" tom head and buy a falam slam.

A quiet practice option
Comments:
I put these heads on the batter side of all my drums; snare, bass, and toms. The drums are very quiet. I left the reso side heads on the drums. The tone of the reso head is preserved and the snares on the snare drum still work. The response of the stick off the head is a bit different than regular heads, a bit more springy. The bass drum is underbalanced in this configuration, but still audible. I have the Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals combined with this. It is a great quiet practice set. I can play at night downstairs while my wife is asleep upstairs without waking her up.

Remo 16
Comments:
A little bit bouncy, as expected, but keeping a tad looser minimizes the effect somewhat. Definitely much quieter than mylar heads, of course.

Bearing Edge Damage, Beware
Comments:
I gave it 2 stars because the concept is good, and it does what it's supposed to do. Having said that, after a few months of using these, I examined the bearing edges on my drums. My drums are newer Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute. Anyone who knows these, knows that the edges are perfect 45s. After a few months of using the Silent Strokes, they had little grid marks on them and were slightly rounded off. You see, the mesh heads are a very durable synthetic mesh. Every time you strike the head, it moves over the bearing edge slightly. Enough of this results in a sand paper effect, wearing away at the edge. Don't get your heart broken; please use with great caution!
