Remo Versa Drum Heads

I have the Remo Timbau which came with the medium pitch drumhead. I like the lower pitch of the TF20. I have not played my new drum with my circle yet, so it will be interesting to hear how it sounds with the other drums. These fiberskyns are much tighter than animal skins, so there will be some getting use to that aspect. I am new to drumming & was intrigued with the idea of interchangeable drum heads & not worrying about them going out of tune. I'd talked to other drummers who had drums with synthetic heads & they really liked them, plus they sounded great. Plus I played my friend's Toca a few times, so I had an idea of what I was getting with the Remo Versa.

I use this on a Versa Tubano. Works great. Nice thump in the center for bass - but not too deep. Mid-tone off of center, and high tone on or slightly off the rim. I use marimba beaters from very soft to hard and get good tones with all. I also use bass drum sheepskin covered beaters for bass and these work well too. You probably will have to use moon gell or drum dots to tone down the ringing overtones got without them. All the Remo Versa drumheads - TF 10, TF 15, TF 20 - have these ovetones. I use one gell on each side of top center: does the trick. Remo has had a problem with mistakes in the printing of the pattern on its Versa drumheads, and lacking quality control for this, but this one I bought from Steve Weiss had no problem of this kind.

I had to return two due to misprinting of the design on the drumhead. Each had a spot where there was no printing of the pattern on the drumhead, one a circular area and the other a quarter moon-like area. I gave up and did not order a third one. This drumhead did not work well with my Versa Tubano in any case, whereas the TF 10 and TF 20 drumheads gave good sounds. This is the drumhead that comes standard on the Versa Timbau.
