Aldridge-From My Little Island-M - Product Information
From My Little Island by Robert Aldridge was written for, premiered by and recorded by marimba specialist Nancy Zeltsman. Originally written in the late 1980s, this is the revised version from 2002 (with "minor improvements" worked out with Zeltsman's input).
The "Island" is the marimba: described by Zeltsman as "complete and self-sustaining." Aldridge describes his work as "a theme and variations in the form of seven studies in perpetual motion." The texture of the work is characterized by fast notes and rhythmic patterns, but with a melody running throughout.
