The Salyers Percussion MAM30 medium hard yarn mallet works across the entire marimba range. This is a great general mallet choice.

The Salyers Percussion Marching Arts Collection is designed to deliver optimum tone and performance for the Marching Arts activities. The marimba and vibraphone models are wrapped with extra durable yarn and cord to withstand the extra demands of front ensemble playing. All models are designed with extra weight to help achieve the maximum tone projection from the instruments. The unwound models feature 1.25″ brass weighted heads for maximum projection of tone.

The MAM 30 is an excellent choice for Low use and provide excellent tone through the entire spectrum of your 5 octaves marimba. However, for heavy practice like during 3-week Band Camp they won't hold up. I purchased 2-sets (4-mallets), one broke (non-repairable for use) the second day of use by the end of the first week 2 more had cracked (repairable with tape), by the third week of practice only one was serviceable. Cannot recommend them for extended use they simply do not hold up. I have purchased 4 new ones and use them only for play during band competitions and concerts. I use another brand for practice, an unknown brand that got me through 3-weeks of band camp and the full year of play during my junior year. The MAM 30 will not do that!
