Two books in one binding, 108 pages. This edition of J. S. Bach's Six Suites for Violoncello is transcribed for marimba by Leigh Howard Stevens with an introduction and musical text edited by Swiss Bach scholar, Dominik Sackmann. This new edition eliminates all clef issues and questions about which of the five original source copies to follow. First half of book is LHS's Marimbists' Guide to Performing Bach. 17 sections covering tempo, ornamentation, articulation, mallet choice, production of legato, etc. This ground-breaking book will surely become a core part of every college percussionist's education.

Yes, I know that the Bach Cello Suites have been around for centuries and there are countless editions of them available. But, until the Stevens edition, there has been nothing of value for the marimbist to use as a serious performance reference. This is the single best edition available and the level of research and accuracy is considerable. Since the addition of the now standard 5 octave marimba, a source like this has been lacking. This should be a requirement for every college percussion major.
