Papador-Summons (SP)-Solo 5T/B/2V/Cro./X/2M/P

Summons by Nicholas Papador is a piece for solo timpani and 7 member percussion ensemble. Papador explains that this piece emerges from his interest in utilizing the percussion ensemble in a gestural and theatrical manner that also retains a sense of melodic and rhythmic drive as incorporated in the music of his favorite orchestral composers of the late twentieth century. Timpani Solo - 5 timpani (32", 29", 26", 23", 20"), 2 crotales, triangle, inverted cymbal.

Player 1 - Glockenspiel, bongos, small suspended cymbal, two woodblocks, claves, snare drum, contrabass bow for cymbal, whip/slapstick.

Player 2 - Crotales, vibraphone, bongos (or two high toms), suspended Chinese opera gong, claves, 16" suspended cymbal (bowed and struck), whip.slapstick.

Player 3 - Vibraphone, floor tom, two woodblocks, claves, china cymbal, low brake drum.

Player 4 - Triangle, suspended sizzle cymbal, xylophone, timbales, high brake drum.

Player 5 - Triangle, suspended truck spring, break drum, log drum (2 pitches), claves, 4.3 octave marimba, medium low brake drum.

Player 6 - Triangle, small tam-tam or wind gong, congas, claves, 4.5 octave (low F) marimba, medium high brake drum, C# chime.

Player 7 - Large finger cymbals, concert bass drum, temple blocks (5), claves, tam-tam, chimes.
