Maslanka-Variations on Lost Love-M - Product Information
Variations on Lost Love by David Maslanka is based on a poem by Robert Graves called "Lost Love". The piece is broken up into 4 sections: Theme (A beautiful and morose melody), Part 1 (A variation on the theme, now accompanied by rich chords and interspersed with melodic 'play'), Part 2 (Now using ideas developed in Part I, the theme and its variations are combined into an eerie dance), & Part 3 (Like the quirky movements of bugs, the theme is now disjointed and awkward...then more calming and playful...then relentless and racing.). This would be a very appropriate piece for an undergraduate or graduate recital as it incorporates many of the essential 4-mallet marimba techniques (double lateral rolls, independent rolls, etc.). Originally written for Leigh Howard Stevens, this piece was also edited by him.
