Vic Firth Corpsmaster Ian Grom Series Marimba Mallet - Medium Birch - Product Information

The Vic Firth Ian Grom M262 is a very versatile mallet. This medium mallet works well across the entire marimba. It is a great outdoor mallet because of it's articulation and diversity. In fact this mallet will work for almost all applications. High quality Birch handles will be comfortable and straight.

The Vic Firth Ian Grom Series is designed to embrace the musical experience Ian has acquired over the years. The key to the sound of the series is a core unique to only the Grom series. The same core is used in both the vibraphone and marimba series to give a signature dark quality for the series. All the mallets in this series can be used on competitive material. These mallets are also designed to be used a lot. Built to last entire season the Grom Series delivers a consistent tone throughout the life of the mallet.

Not viable for marching band

Comments:

I bought 2 pairs of these mallets at the beginning of the marching season and broke all 4 within the The first 3 months of use. Mallet head is disproportionately heavy to the weak birch shaft. Either go with lighter mallets or rattan shaft.

Comments:

These are some big-headed mallets. A bit hefty for new players. Complex response though; certainly a thoughtfully designed mallet, just clunky.

Product Description is True!!

Comments:

The proof is in the video that Mr. Grom presents. I have tested these mallets myself and with my students. I would stand by the product description. One thing to note here is that I would recommend these mallets for more experienced players because there is some weight to the mallet head. I think developing players might have some challenges with control due to the weight at first use. However, they could be used to build endurance.
