Great First Vibe Mallet
Comments:
I really like this mallet a lot. As a college student, this mallet has not failed me yet. It produces great soft tones, but can also be loud if you need that too. In my opinion, the mallets are a touch too soft, and can be hard to hear in a concert band or large ensemble setting. However, they are perfect for solo work, or small combos. If deciding between Mike Balter 23R and Gary Burtons, either will work, and it depends on the sound you want.

Too Soft in my opinion
Comments:
Great mallet in small ensemble or solo, haven't had the opportunity to use it in a combo setting so take what I say with a grain of salt. I use this mallet in percussion ensemble and Wind ensemble and it just does not do the job for me, not very articulate or dynamic. That being said, it does have a nice warmth to and draws a great tone, some say in a few months it is a solid mallet, for me it is not,I believe I could have chosen the wrong mallet as well.

Just perfect....
Comments:
these mallets are exactly what Gary Burton describes for why he made these in the first place. I've been playing with Micelli's for two years, and now that they've been broken in, they are juuuust a little bit too clanky, after the yarn has been so compressed.
With the Burton's wider head, and synthetic yarn, after they broke in, they still have a nice warm tone in the lower register, but if i choose to hit harder, (which I do when playing with two mallets only,) they have a warm, AND crisp tone.
Very VERY happy with these mallets.
