The Vic Firth Modern Jazz Collection MJC1 Drumstick has a slightly elongated 55A shaft with a medium taper and oval tip. This stick delivers more emphasis and weight to the ride cymbal due to it's thicker diameter.

Vic Firth applied years of drumstick manufacturing and collaborations with artists to the Modern Jazz Series. This line has been in development for years so that Vic Firth could get every detail perfect. The end result is a complete line of sticks to fit the needs of jazz drummers from modem fusion, to straight ahead bop and the experimental.

Most of the sticks made for jazz seem to be on the thin side. This one is a 55A shaft with an elongated taper which creates great rebound. Since the taper is long, the balance is still going to be towards the hand and not the tip, which makes these feel very light. The tip is an oval, which is very close to the tip on the Steve Smith Signature sticks, only these are more rounded, giving a great sound on cymbals. Since this stick is on the hefty side as far as handle size, It gives a very good cross stick sound. I would use these for soft to medium volumes, but its not going to last long in situations were more power is needed.
