Vic Firth Corpsmaster Tom Aungst Tenor Hybrid Mallet - Product Information

Vic Firth STATH Tom Aungst Tenor Hybrid Sticks blend the sound of a snare stick with the feel of a traditional tenor mallet. Field tested with the 2007 DCI Silver Medalist Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps, this unique product is very well balanced and creates a great quality of sound that blends beautifully with the snare and bass voice within the marching ensemble.

The handle features a "step-down" design for grip comfort and creates a shaft dimension that makes for an ideal stick weight. The "rim-shot zone" is perfectly placed just before the pronounced taper which creates an excellent rebound. With the perfect tip shape and size, this product assists the player in getting around the drums easily while producing a great sound.

Additionally, the Vic Firth STATH Tom Aungst Tenor Hybrid is a great choice for Indoor Marching where assistance in achieving clarity is a decided plus!

Length: 15 3/4"
Diameter: .700" at butt, .650" at shaft

Developed with Tom Aungst – DCI Hall of Fame member, Arranger & Director of Percussion for the Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps and Percussion Director for the Dartmouth Public School System in Dartmouth, MA – this new implement is designed for multi-tenor playing.

Comments:

Really not my best pair. After a while you can get used to it but it really depends if you're used to added weight in the front. Large disc-like tip allows for easier scrapes but less attack for crossovers. Feels shorter than how it looks, weight isn't really an issue. The grip is a new addition I haven't seen a lot. I'd test a pair out before buying.

Great!!

Comments:

These sticks are great. They have a solid weight distribution and have a great sound. A little expensive, but Steve Weiss always seem to keep the price down!

Not my cup of tea

Comments:

My very first season on tenors we used these. I wasn't that good so I really didn't know. But now that I'm a very skilled tenor player. These sticks aren't for me. I'm not saying they are bad but I prefer MTS4s (i think). I don't like how big the head of the stick is. It is very easy to diddle and sweep on them. With how big the head is it kinda messed up my playing because how big they were. But like I said. It depends on the player.

Great Stick

Comments:

I've been using these for a couple of years now and i still have yet to find a better stick, at first they were breaking all the time but when i fixed my technique and actually learned how to use them they last a while.
