Vic Firth Robert Van Sice Signature Vibraphone Mallets - Hard - Product Information

This Vic Firth Robert Van Sice Signature Vibraphone Mallet is the hardest mallet in the Van Sice vibraphone series, providing ultimate articulation on the instrument when the repertoire requires the instrument to cut through the ensemble.

The Van Sice Vibraphone Series is an expansion to the best selling series of marimba mallets from Vic Firth. The Robert van Sice signature vibraphone models are a new voice in the category, offering a beautiful lush sound on instrument without the front end attack characteristic of many vibraphone mallet models. Designed for solo and chamber percussionists, these mallets blend into the ensemble unlike anything else available, and were designed with the concert vibraphonist in mind.

Specifications:

  • Rattan handle for flexibility and optimized feel on the instrument.
  • Yarn wound core minimizes front end attack.
  • Length - 16"
  • Hardness - Hard

My Favorite Vibraphone Mallets

Comments:

The head is probably smaller than you'd expect. The shaft is also a little longer than I had expected, and they're quite light. My favorite thing about them, however, is that, similar to the Van Sice marimba mallets, you can angle up and create a completely different sound. They do get a grey band of use rather quickly, but mine sound great still after having them for over a year and using them almost every day for hours and hours. I am currently - and slowly - completing my set of this lineup. I have the hards, medium softs, and soon, the softs. The medium softs are also very good, but I find myself always going the hards more as I can always angle up to get a softer sound if needed. However, I will say, the medium softs are very good as a bass mallet in a graduated set.
