medium brown mallets

Comments:

The mallets say medium, but they are awful soft. It is not easy to hear the students play on the xylophone upper range especially. I expected harder rubber...also the birch handles are very light as well. They work ok, but i had hoped to get more sound out of them.

Great for Orff instruments

Comments:

The medium and soft mallets are perfect for Orff instruments. I did not buy hard, but I imagine they are too hard for soprano Orff xylophones. They are long for children, but my students adapt easily. Oh, and the price is wonderful!

Good

Comments:

Ok, well I bought these not expecting much. But, I got more than I expected for 7 dollars. These mallets work best on the marimba, preferably the middle to top. The lower register could sound better with a softer mallet. It also gets a sound out of the lower half of my schools synthetic Musser xylophone, but the top register would not be heard in any concert hall. The size of the total mallet, rubber ball included, is 16 inches. A lot bigger than I expected, but it seems to help for marimba. The rubber disk is also 1 inch diameter across. For the price, you can not beat it. I have used it regularly for practice on marimba and xylophone, and it has help together. I can't pull the rubber disks off if I wanted to, unlike my pair of rubber Balter mallets, whose rubber disks came off when I first got them. Summary- For the price, it is a good practice mallet. Can be used on marimba for concerts, don't recommend xylophone concert use due to the 16 inch length and lack of sound. If the medium pair is good, I feel it is safe to assume that the soft and hard pairs are good as well. I will also be purchasing multiple Liberty I series mallets, and I expect the same quality as these.
