I picked these up in the bargain basement! They were used during a week long set of clinics but that just means somebody else broke them in for me -- and for the price, YES! For starters, the natural finish is great! The wood grain shows through quite nice and I'm afraid I'll have to bust this kit out for all of my "classy engagements." The sound they put out (especially when considering the price) is phenomenal! I own a DW Collectors Series kit and a PDP Concept Birch kit and I have no problem saying that the Yamahas hold their own both sound-wise and looks-wise! I think I'd be hard pressed to find anyone at a gig who'd complain about their sound. The hardware package that came with the kit is definitely gig worthy. The hi-hat stand, snare stand and cymbal stands could (and probably will) take a beating. The lighter duty bass pedal and throne I probably won't take to my rock shows, but I'd definitely have no problem with utilizing them on the jazz and country gigs! I plan on adding 16" and 18" floor toms to round out the flexibility of the kit (maybe even use the 18" as a bass drum on occasion) and have no qualms about how their sound and quality will turn out to be. I'm even planning on making this my primary recording kit. I've used 20" bass drums before in recordings and they're always nice and punchy! Bottom line, great kit, killer looks and sound, hardware is a nice surprise and great price! If you're on the fence you really can't beat 'em! Well, you can (ba-dum tiss) but you get my point.
