Originally written for xylophone and piano, it was later scored for xylophone and a nine-piece orchestra. Dance of the Toy Regiment was recorded by five record labels including Victor, Columbia, Brunswick and Edison companies. Each recording featured a slightly different orchestration and xylophone solo improvisation.
