Following high school, Gian-Carlo Menotti brought him to the Curtis Institute of Music. At age 19, the Curtis Institute sent him to Italy to study composition with the legendary Rosario Scalero (the teacher of Samuel Barber and Menotti).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eUpon graduation, Zaninelli was appointed to the faculty of the Curtis Institute.  In 1964, he returned to Rome to compose film music for RCA Italiana.
