Definitely improved (darkened and sensitized) my Yamaha maple custom absolute snare drum. I like them.

Used as an update on a 14x4" brass drum, which was a little too bright with standard ProSound snares. Used the SX Orchestral Silver/Bronze, and it sounds much more like a concert drum. Still bites well at loud volumes, but much more sensitive at softer volumes. It does take some tension adjustment, as you no longer need things to be super tight, but once it's dialed in you have a very dry, dynamic sound.

I recently received a Gretsch Gergo Borlai signature snare drum, which I love in every way except that it arrived with those unnecessarily wide 42-strand snares for which Gretsch is famous. Usually those snares work fine (even if they muffle as much sound as they inspire), but in this case they buzzed unevenly. I replaced those snares with the 20-strand snares from another recent Gretsch drum and installed 15-strand Grover snares on that drum. They went on quickly and easily, centered and sounding great, on the first try. The supplied Dacron attachment cords work better than the stiff, heavy-duty strapping, but in either case the Grover snares are a major improvement over typical factory models. Thanks again!

I love Grover snare wires. They can really improve the sound of a drum.

I love Grover snare wires, very sensitive and you don't need to over tighten them ,( which will choke the snare side head) to get a solid, fat sound out of them.

I got the orchestral snares to use while playing a musical. They are so responsive and sounded horrible in my living room, the smallest note on any drum would cause the snares to vibrate. I went into the hall to play the show and they sound amazing. Every note speaks evenly at all different dynamics.

Thought I would try some cable snares on my drum set snare. They sound fine. Slightly more articulate than traditional spiral wire snare. However, I must confess that even though I liked the sound - I went back to the PureSound Custom snares I have used for years. Give them a try. They could very well provide the sound you are looking for.

These are excellent snare if you are going for a "concert" snare sound. I have used several other brands and these seem to have the best dynamic range. They produce a full sound at loud dynamic levels and yet are very responsive at very soft dynamic levels. They produce clean and clear articulation yet are forgiving enough to smooth out rolls. I have these snares on all my concert snare drums. Highly recommended.

With these wires, I've found my snare drum sound. They are much darker and drier and the common curly-wired "snappy snares." Other snare wires no just sound harsh to me. There is virtually no-after buzz and much less sympathetic buzz with other drums (but not zero). You want to be aware of a few things if you go the Grover route: 1) Your playing has to be clean. Just as guitar player can hide slop behind distortion, a drummer can hide sloppy snare drum work behind bright, buzzy wires. With the Grovers there is nowhere to hide. 2) Do you love the sound of your snare drum with the wires off? You snare drum will sound the same, but with the introduction of dark dry snare sound. "Snappy snares" cover up a lot of the sound of the drum. Grovers let them shine through. If you don't like the sound of your snare drum with the wires off, Grovers are not what you want. If you love the sound of your drum, Grovers will let the sound shine through.

If you want a good snare set to transform any snare into a great sounding concert snare, look no further! I have tried all of the major brand cable snare replacements, and the Grover's are by far the best option at a reasonable cost. They work best over a diplomat weight snare side head. They are very responsive, sensitive, and play well over a large dynamic range. These are just perfect, andd no muss, no fuss!

I have use Black Swamp and Patterson snares on concert set up snares, and they are good products. These are much better yet! I bought the silver and copper concert snare set. Wide enough foot print on the reso head to supply some damping, crisp, articulate, sensitive all the way out to the edge. Works best with a Diplomat weight reso, and Diplomat or Ambasadore weight batter. These play well at all dynamic levels. Neil got it right with these! As others have said, tighten them evenly, center the set on the head, and do not over-tighten. Best concert wires on the market.

This wire is nice and crisp when tightened a little and washy when loosened a little. It has a large dynamic range in comparison to the typical curly snare wire. This wire is the closest alternative I could imagine sounding good in comparison to Pearl concert snare wire or Black Swamp snare wire.

I was looking for something softer yet sensitive for a brass 3x13 Pearl piccolo, and this fits nicely. It's dry and sensitive. It can still get very loud, but at low volumes it speaks nicely. Happy with the purchase.

I have a Premier 6" steel concert snare drum which I use for band and solo literature. It had some Black Swamp cable snares on it, the half silver/half blue version. These are also great sounding snares, but because of the nature of the cable, they are not responsive at very soft dynamic levels. Having played a Pearl Philharmonic snare with the triple snare set-up, I was interested in getting something which would still sound crisp and clear at the loud end like my current Black Swamp snares, but also be very responsive at the softest dynamics as well, which the triple snare set up does so well. I have to say that these Grover SX snares sound as good to me as the triple snare set-up, and will transform any decent concert snare drum into something very responsive across the dynamic range. They are also very easy to adjust, unlike traditional coil snares. I also have an Evans snare side head and an Evans Strata Staccato 1000 batter head which I just installed on this drum. Tuning the batter up to a Bb and then the snare side a bit higher, I get an awesome sound with just a bit of a ring. I use a Black Swamp leather damper on the batter head to take this slight ping out of the sound, and it really speaks crisply and clearly. By the way, the Grover snares come with both straps and strings for mounting, so you do not have to order these separately.

If you are looking for a drier sound from your snare drum, these wires are for you. They are not as dry as natural or synthetic gut; for me they are the perfect response in between standard wires and gut. A bit pricey, but worth every penny.

I've used Grover snares on several other snare drums so I was happily surprised to find that they make snares to fit drums like the Pearl Free Floating snare. Huge change in sound from even the high quality snappy snares. Sensitive, and full sounding, and they really compliment the drum at all volume levels.

I have tried all the major brands of replacement snares and I find the Grover Silver/Bronze snares to be one of the best. They are dry and articulate, yet quite "alive", unlike others that are dry, but spiritless. I find curled-wire "snappy" snares to have an annoying after-buzz, no matter how tight they are adjusted. Coiled wire snares like the Grover do not have this characteristic. Buzzy "snappy" snares do allow drummers to sound more "busy", however--a very clever acoustic feint of hand.
