Vic Firth Corpsmaster Tom Aungst Tenor Hybrid Mallet

Vic Firth STATH Tom Aungst Tenor Hybrid Sticks blend the sound of a snare stick with the feel of a traditional tenor mallet. Field tested with the 2007 DCI Silver Medalist Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps, this unique product is very well balanced and...

Really not my best pair. After a while you can get used to it but it really depends if you're used to added weight in the front. Large disc-like tip allows for easier scrapes but less attack for crossovers. Feels shorter than how it looks, weight isn't really an issue. The grip is a new addition I haven't seen a lot. I'd test a pair out before buying.

Great!!

Comments:

These sticks are great. They have a solid weight distribution and have a great sound. A little expensive, but Steve Weiss always seem to keep the price down!

Not my cup of tea

Comments:

My very first season on tenors we used these. I wasn't that good so I really didn't know. But now that I'm a very skilled tenor player. These sticks aren't for me. I'm not saying they are bad but I prefer MTS4s (i think). I don't like how big the head of the stick is. It is very easy to diddle and sweep on them. With how big the head is it kinda messed up my playing because how big they were. But like I said. It depends on the player.

Great Stick

Comments:

I've been using these for a couple of years now and i still have yet to find a better stick, at first they were breaking all the time but when i fixed my technique and actually learned how to use them they last a while.

Good All Around Stick

Comments:

These mallets are good for intermediate level players looking for a good sounding mallet, but who still need a little help with diddles and sweeps on the tenors. The plastic heads give a good rebound and the wooden shaft gives the mallet a full sound. I use these for Marching Band and love the way they sound and feel.

It's ok

Comments:

These sticks sound amazing.....until they break. I went through 7 pairs of these sticks during half the season. The sticks are not the easiest things to play with. The feeling takes awhile to get used to but even using them for half a season you never really get completely used to them. Over all if you have an easy show or section of a show use em. If not stay away. I would suggest ts1 good sound and easy to play with.

awesome feel

Comments:

The minute i pick them up and took them out of the package my first thoughts were, wow these are heavy, in the good way. They have a great feel, as soon as i used them on my tenors, they felt like no other mallet ive tried to use before.

Comments:

These are excellent implements. I submit that anyone who's players are going through these within 3 of playing has some pretty poorly trained players. lol No matter what you use, it ultimately comes down to technique. These sticks have surprisingly good consistency across different pairs and weight as well. I do wish they were just a tad longer for large configuration quad kits, but overall these are a 10! (well, a 5 here) lol.

Hybrids

Comments:

They don't give the best response to the tenors. Also my tenor players go through a pair of these sticks within 3 hours of playing so..... I don't recommend these sticks for playing, sound, or durability!

yea they will work

Comments:

These sticks are really quite nice, but having a thinker shaft with no taper until the end makes for a fairly odd feeling for a while. It is certainly something that anyone can become accustomed to after a while, but I wouldn't recommend picking them up and expecting to use them halfway through a season.
