A Cricket Sang and Set the Sun by Blake Tyson is a beautiful, lyrical piece for solo marimba. The opening passages of the piece ebb and flow and create a very reflective mood. "This work takes its title from an Emily Dickinson poem that begins,...

Very Beautiful

This song is over all a great piece. And it shipped within 4 days so that's a plus! It's not too hard but it also challenges anyone starting out with 4 mallet grip, at least for me.

A fun little solo with some cool moments and a few key changes. A great intermediate solo for a high school freshman.

VERY VERY fun to play, and absolutely beautiful. A great piece for any intermediate player. Has long lyrical passages which make you think musically, some difficult technical spots that will work your chops, and an absolutely beautiful chorale at the end that is just PERFECT. Blake Tyson is also an awesome dude, inside the first page he asks you to contact him if you are performing his solo and his reply show an obvious love for sharing his compositions. Thanks for writing this piece Blake Tyson!!

Adore this piece
Comments:
I fell in love with this song months ago while browsing through youtube. It is such a beautiful piece and you can really "hear" the cricket as he sets the sun. This piece is a beautiful challenge to play. It does not have a huge amount of accidentals, the notes themselves are not hard to play, but to keep the feel and both hands going in the patterns presented are more of the challenge. I would recommend this to the aspiring 4 mallet marimba player.
