Great Customer Service, Nice Product

Comments:

After several delays by UPS Freight, the box containing the resonators arrived with a big hole in it. After inspecting the contents, one of the resonators was severely bent and unusable. Steve Weiss customer service was very responsive and sent us a replacement which arrived a week later. The rest of the parts were in good condition and so far the final product appears to be nice quality.

Very Nice Marimba!

Comments:

We purchased the marimba for our high school student. After researching various marimbas, at this price point the Adams was the clear winner. We are very happy with it and absolutely feel that we made the correct choice. One comment with regards to how it is shipped as it was not clear to me as to how it would arrive. It was delivered with two boxes on a pallet. The boxes were very easily handled.

You can't beat it with a stick!! (mallets only)

Comments:

This is an awesome marimba! The frame is very sturdy and well designed, and it sounds beautiful. I think it is reprehensible that it is often described as a "practice" marimba. That's like saying if you don't own a Stradivarius, you should only play in you basement for fear of embarrassment. If you're going to play with Yo-Yo Ma, you'll need to pay the big bucks. Otherwise, enough with the snobbery.

Big marimba!

Comments:

We bought this marimba for our son who has recently started taking lessons. He was given a piece that was impossible to practice on a 3-octave vibraphone. This marimba is huge! It sounds very pretty and was relatively easy to assemble. The only thing we didn't anticipate was the enormity of the instrument. Moves well on wheels. Definitely an investment.

A Very Fine Instrument

Comments:

After playing drums for about 60 years including a period of about 23 years when my profession interfered with my with opportunities, I decided to study mallet instruments. Based on the recommendation of a Steve Weiss representative I purchased this instrument to replace a used rental vibraphone. I couldn't be more satisfied. The Padouck sounds almost as good as the rosewood instrument in my instructor's studio. A great value.

Fabulous instrument for the price

Comments:

For what it is, this is a wonderful marimba. If you are looking for a practice instrument, or a starter marimba this is a fantastic choice. I would definitely choose this over the Adams Padouk soloist, TOTALLY worth the extra $300 as the keys are the same size as most other marimbas so your interval training will not be useless if you go to compete, or play on a "real" instrument somewhere. The sound is pleasant enough, not the warm rich sound you get from Rosewood, but with the right mallets it is lovely. Shipping was unique, it comes on a pallet and you have to be there for delivery, but it is a BIG shipment. As long as you are prepared for that, it is no problem. If you haven't owned a marimba before, be prepared. Like a grand piano, it takes a good amount of space, and completely replaced our sofa. It breaks down and transports well, and comes with a cover. If well taken care of this is a great investment.

amazing

Comments:

Sounds so very close to rosewood at over half the price. Great build, easy setup. Cost me about 3200 with shipping and tax and worth every penny. Probably should cost more ;) Oops, I shouldn't say that should I? ;) Much bigger looking then the pictures seem to display. Great purchase.

Beautiful Instrument

Comments:

Bought this for my son who just finished his freshman year in college as a percussion major. We had total trust in Adams, but were uncertain about the Padouk, having never played one with this wood. Absolutely no worry. The sound of this instrument is gorgeous and the responsiveness is great. He notices the slight tonal difference between Padouk and Rosewood, but that is not a deterrent. Just the slight difference between two warm, resonant woods. For us, the price difference made this purchase possible. Assembly was easy, especially for someone who already knows his way around a marimba. Padouk bars can be replaced with Rosewood if desired in the future. Either way, this is clearly an instrument which have long use.

Great!

Comments:

As a serious high school percussionist, this was the perfect thing for me. I wanted something to practice on that sounded decent, and an affordable price range. This was probably the best marimba i could've gotten with the money I had. This is so much better than the solist series due to the fact the bar width is normal. The only thing is the instructions setting it up was very vague, also the sound of the marimba is a bit bright due to the padouk bars. However, for about 3000$ (shipping varies), this is the best marimba you can get on the internet today.

Very Nice Marimba

Comments:

I have played on many marimbas, but this is the my first marimba that I was getting. I was not sure if it would be good sound quality, but once I set it up and started to play it, I realized that it sounded good. It is not the same quality as rosewood, but for a half the price, you really get your money's worth. I would definitely recommend this to someone who is looking for a great practice instrument or even something that a high school with a budget could use. For the padouk wood, you really can't tell the difference that much. It is not the same as rosewood, but a great price for the sound you get from it.
