Weird reviews - NRR

Comments:

These are amazing. Those who complain about not enough reduction....what?!!! Just get a stronger pair, they offer all kinds of filters. You are not making any sense. The company offers free exchanges for anything - size or filter changes - what could be better? no body else does that so take advantage of a great product. These plugs rock - they really rock. OH, yes I use the 26dB and got their by exchanging them out for the standards. I am a heavy hitter though.

Fabulous!

Comments:

Best of the Best, they don't hurt or let sound go through like custom plugs, The soft silicone adapts to my ear canal. First i had the US Filters, however playing as a drummer made me take a bit more heavy(EU) Filter. Now i use the US filters when i go to Clubs.

Could be harmful for drummers

Comments:

They do not attenuate evenly, as some of the comments have said. In the low frequencies, there's hardly any protection at all. Most sound energy from percussion is in the low frequencies. This company is an earmold lab trying to make bank off the ears of musicians and the music community. Ask any audiologist and they will tell you that Earasures are not for music and specifically, not enough protection for drummers. We use Earlove, by Etymotic, because it is owned by musicians musicians (DJ & a working percussionist/music educator). Stick with the affordable, tried and true.Since 1991, Earlove.net

Great for Ensemble!

Comments:

These are absolutely excellent. They keep all clarity of sound and pitch, but block out excess volume very well. I never miss anything said to the ensemble while wearing them, even across a large rehearsal space. Perfect for ensemble or solo practicing.

There's more to these plugs than the NRR

Comments:

Will K, we appreciate your in depth review and I am glad you found our Earasers really do sound great. Foam and muffs are definitely going to provide more protection. If fidelity is not important, they may be your best option. However, if you are looking for terrific sound and protection, don't let the NRR rating fool you. The NRR rating is a single digit measurement of the potential noise reduction meant to give consumers a quick reference to compare multiple products. The testing model was implemented back in the 70's and we believe ignores the actual sensitivity of human hearing. As a 48 year old hearing aid manufacturing company, we know that the human ear resonates and amplifies sounds between 1kHz and 6kHz. Since this is where our ears are most sensitive to noise, that is where we maximize the attenuation (up to 19dB). Outside that area where your ears are less sensitive, we reduce the attenuation, providing your ears with a true flat response. Your perceived volume reduction is only about 5dB, but we are removing up to 19dB in the most damaging frequencies. The true test is after a night of playing...if you don't experience ringing or feel like your head is in a bubble, then they have done their job. If you do experience either of these, contact us directly and we can fit you with a customized filter that provides additional protection. Also, if you are putting yourself in situations that require you to wear hearing protection, we strongly recommend getting an annual hearing test.

sound great because only -5 DB protection

Comments:

These earplugs really do sound great, and feel good in the ears, but when you look at the fine print on the instructions in the box, the mean attenuation is only -5db (with up to -19 at higher frequencies to be fair), and they say there are not meant to be used where there are single large spikes in volume. The reason they sound so good is that they offer very little overall volume reduction! If you're playing truly high-decible music, all frequencies are harmful to the ear, and that -5 DB rating isn't going to do much for you, and drums tend to have those high spikes in volume. I plan to keep my pair in my arsenal for those occasions which aren't extremely loud, but where I could use a little extra hearing protection, like playing with acoustic jazz combos, orchestra situations where I'm not playing ff crashes, xylophone lessons and practice, etc. When I play amplified rock or with a drumline, I'll definitely continue pulling out the -25db musicians ear plugs or -33db foam Hearos for true hearing protection.

These earplugs are perfect!

Comments:

I am very happy with these earplugs; they retain much of the dynamic range and are a good step up from the Hearos earplugs I use in my practice room. I think they are great for the kind of music I play: early R&B and New Orleans Jazz. I highly recommend these.

Great!

Comments:

These ear plugs are fantastic. They do not distort the pitch, which is very important to me being a timpanist. I highly recommend these as an alternative to the custom earplugs without breaking the bank.

Not so great

Comments:

The size that "usually fits most adult men" was too small for my ears, had to exchange. Manufacturer did that for free so that was really nice. But in a band situation, I found the earasers to be too weak in attenuation, and the sound was muddy. I expected miracles after reading everything but it was not that way at all.

Amazing earplugs at a Great Price

Comments:

I bought these earplugs at PASIC after a friend recommended them, and really only tried them because they were discounted 50% for the convention. They are hands down the best earplugs I've ever tried. I used the Etymotic Research High Fidelity plugs for years, and didn't think I could find anything better without spending $100 or more for custom made ones. These proved me wrong right away. At first I didn't think they were inserted correctly because they don't distort or muffle the sound at all, and they are extremely comfortable. Other earplugs tend to become itchy and irritating after wearing them for a long time, but these I can wear for a 3 hour rehearsal and totally forget that they're even there. I use them for everything from practicing with a loud rock band, teaching super loud drumlines, teaching lessons in a small practice room, going to shows in noisy bars, even mowing the lawn. They're so small you can sleep on them and they fit under bigger headphones, so blasting a metronome at full volume through them won't destroy your eardrums. Best of all is they are discrete and totally invisible to others. Totally worth every penny! One and only complaint is the case they come in, which I think is a little too big for the tiny plugs. I actually keep mine in the Etymotic pouch so they're always with me on my keys.

Superb

Comments:

Solid plugs. Are equal to or better than Ety's depending on your taste. I use these for indoor drumline rehearsals, big band gigs, and loud wind ensemble rehearsals. The design allows unmuffled and undistorted sound into your ear in a smaller amount. No more tinny sounds or underwater feeling. Killer plugs, thanks.

Awesome earplugs. Worth the price

Comments:

I teach and play all the time in lots of different settings, from drumset gigs in a bar to drumline rehearsals. These are by far the best earplugs I have owned. I have used the etymotic plugs and various kinds of impact noise reducers, and these trump all of that. They are extremely comfortable and snug, but do not put pressure inside your ear (I often forget that I am wearing them!), and they don't muffle tone in the same way foam earplugs do. They fit inside your ear canal with only a tiny, clear, unnoticeable handle for removal, so you can wear them comfortably with any headphones/monitors. I can even fit some kinds of ear buds over them. Overall great earplugs that don't break the bank.
