Nice Drum at Nice Price

Comments:

This bombo is just what I expected. Not completely traditional in the materials used, but a good quality build at an appropriate value. TIP: The fur on the heads on mine was too long, over-muffling the heads a bit. That's an easy fix with a good quality beard trimmer! Gave mine a nice trimming down to a uniform length, and she now sings in a full, rich voice! Do NOT overdo it, a little 'off the top' goes a long way, and remember--you can't put the fur back, but, this may just be the thing to open yours up a bit! I highly recommend this bombo for the combo of quality and value!

Not the sound

Comments:

This Bombo, while looking nice and manufactured with seemingly good quality (though not the real wood used in - say - Argentina), unfortunately does not convince sonically. None of the trademark dark yet sustained (!) "boom", as the actual instrument would have (I own several). What arrived sounded slightly fuller than the cardboard box it shipped in, even after letting it get acclimated to room temperature and experimenting with tuning ranges. No idea why, heads look ok but maybe its a mounting or thickness issue, or the plywood shell just can't create the resonance needed.

Wonderful Instrument!

Comments:

Absolutely love this drum! It's tones are rich, deep and resonant. I use the felt mallets that came with it, but I also use a pair of Promark 5Bs and honestly couldn't be more pleased. Since receiving it, I've played it more than any of my hand drums. Looking to take it to its first event this weekend.

Fantastic!

Comments:

I have been looking for a good Bombo for years and I even considered making one, when I saw this one I decided to give it a try because of the good reviews and also because looks really good on the photo. Shipping was incredibly fast, the price unbeatable but the most important thing the sound is incredible. I record Andean music from South America and this one will be the tool that I was missing for so long. Extremely happy with my purchase. The size is perfect, if you want a deeper sound you have to go for something bigger; this one is just Perfect!

Great bombo criollo!

Comments:

Arrived very quickly. The bombo is made of high quality wood and goat skin. Both looks and sounds great, nice rich tone and ideal projection. Tunes up quick and easy. This bombo even got compliments from Bolivian and Peruvian friends during practice and jam sessions. A real winner in every sense of the word. Even came with the proper mallets. Highly recommended

Nice sounding drum, but beware of the construction

Comments:

In terms of sound and price, I would give this a 5 all the way. But the build quality isn't the greatest (hence the low price). The first one that was sent to me was damaged in transit, and this was due to the way the shell is constructed. It's a ply shell, but the plys are put in the shell in a staggered fashion, so there are varying amounts of overlap and thickness at different points in the shell. The damaged shell was very thin at the point it had a couple of holes knocked through it. I've never seen a shell constructed that way. On the plus side, Weiss was very responsive when I called them and immediately took care of the problem, shipping a new drum out very quickly. So, if you can get a shell that hasn't been weakened or damaged, I'd say go for it, it has the typical bombo sound that you may be looking for, and it's a great value.

Great Drum!

Comments:

I have this hobby which turned into my main passion in life to collect and play percussion instruments made from every part of the world. Unfortunately my bank account can only provide so much. That being said, I searched every corner online to find a Bombo criollo at a price point I could afford and was giving up after awhile. But I remembered about Steve Weiss Music and instantly shopped around and look at here! A bombo at an incredible price! This drum is part of their Liberty I brand which supplies gear at a budget friendly price, but don't let "budget" fool you, this drum looks, feels, and most importantly sounds incredible! This is a quality, unique drum to have in the room. I can't wait to get this drum recorded in my next session. Hopefully soon I will make a cradle to hold this drum both upright to play with mallets and horizontal to accommodate a pedal. Love it! Thank you guys for making my day!
