Excellent Mallets!

Comments:

I now feel really comfortable playing with 2 mallets! Previously I found the weight of two regular mallets to be too light to play with and I preferred the weight of 4 mallets in my hands. But with Stefon's mallets I can comfortably play with just 2 as they are a lot heavier and feel much better in my hands. Lighter mallets tend to feel too light and weak in my hands (when playing with 2), but these mallets fix that problem. The weight also contributes significantly to the sound, as it really brings out the fundamental and produces a big fat sound from the vibraphone. They have a gorgeous, deep tone. To my ears they sound a bit louder than normal mallets, which I think comes from the added weight. They also have a nice attack when playing loud, not too sharp but enough to be heard clearly. They are not quite as articulate as some other mallets I've tried, but they draw out the tone of the instrument better than any other mallets I've used. Would highly recommend.

The new Harris mallets hit the mark!

Comments:

Well, I think that Malletech has finally come up with the best version of the Albright clone mallets in all three models (soft, medium, hard). After many years of trying and purchasing hundreds of mallets I am finally 100% satisfied, which is to say a lot. I play both 2 and 4 mallets but have decided in the last year or so to devote my time to playing 2 mallets. Choosing the right mallet is a very personal experience which involves attack, tone and feel. I have tried some mallets with longer shafts that I like the sound of but, for me, the best feel is the shorter mallets with bigger heads. I have found that it is impossible to judge a mallet until it is in my hands which why I have spent thousands of dollars on mallets. What I like most about these mallets are that they immediately sounded and felt great and I knew that I did not have to go through that period of getting used to them. I have not actually played the "real deal" Albrights but I have gone through all of Stefon's previous mallets as well as many Balter variations. Bottom line is that these are perfect for me after decades of searching. I know that this sounds a little dramatic but we vibes players are sensitive people :).

Nice, not Medium.

Comments:

I like and use these but they are a medium hard, not medium, Milt Jackson copy. With these short sticks, the black end caps are key, I wish they stayed on and didn't skittle off in a dark club.

Best sounding mallet for my playing style

Comments:

At last I found the sound I was looking for. A little overweighted but anything's worth to obtain the sound and articulation I wanted to have.

Love the Mallets

Comments:

My daughter loves the Stefon Harris' mallets. They have light attack but depth of tone. She said they were slightly heavier than her older mallets, but she adjusted quickly. Shipping was quick. No complaints. We will purchase more mallets from here.

Fray quickly, Great tone, No attack.

Comments:

The mallets sound pretty good though they really can't play that loud. Note if you are used to any type of sound of attack with your mallets there's pretty much none with these, just the tone of the note. One downside (which is really sad considering the price) is these fray fast. I would have returned mine but after playing with them for a couple hours overall they were already clearly far from their original condition. These malletech albrights will not last you. They aren't for me but if you like that Albright tone you gotta get them.

Malletech Albright Series Stefon Harris - MEDIUM

Comments:

After testing many mallets, this mallet is the best. It is evenly weighted. The length is 13" with a capped end. It is very balanced either playing with 1 pair or 2 pairs... The inner ball is wrapped with the perfect amount of yarn. It plays very soft when needed while not being muddy. The sound is very distinct and articulate. When played hard it is very bright and very loud when needed but not overbearing. This is as close you can get to a Milt Jackson sound. This wide bar mallet is perfect for graduated bars. I play a MUSSER M7055G. The High F sounds very distinguished... The Rattan does bend when needed and the capped end assures that it will not slip out of your hand. The length of 13" allows a wide spread with control. Another feature of the 13" capped end is that you do not need to scoot or walk the mallets in or out of you hand. You get total control of the mallet. They fit perfect in the palm of your hands,,, Cannot wait to get both the SOFT and the HARD Models....
