The Weiss 12"- 14" Roto-Tom Set with Stand includes a 12" roto-tom, 14" roto-tom, all roto-tom stand parts, and roto-tom heads. A set which finds itself sized between our large roto-toms, and small roto-tom set, these two roto-toms are an incredibly...

Great Solution

Comments:

I wanted a third rack tom and the 14" from this set was perfect for the job. Easy to assemble and works just the same as a certain more expensive brand. Thanks for these!

Awesome.

Comments:

Built well and no problems with tuning or functionality. Stock heads sound ok but I put some pinstripes on them. As far as I can tell, Steve Weiss Music is the only place one can find roto-toms larger than 10". As far as sound goes, it's a steel frame just like the Remos, sound is pretty much determined by the tuning and head choice. Be wary of anybody who says the Remos sound better. Happy with my purchase.

Well-constructed but need assembly instructions

Comments:

The stand is very sturdy and the drumhead is very good. It would , however, be most helpful if it came with assembly instructions since the setup is so different from Remo roto-toms.

Great Roto-toms!

Comments:

These new manufactured Rototoms are a great buy. They are well made, and it's nice to be able to buy brand new Rototoms in different sizes. The original Remo Rototoms are high priced and getting old now. I was glad to be able to get the sizes I wanted brand new. Thank you to Steve Weiss music.

Weiss 12 & 14 roto toms

Comments:

Excellent set of roto toms with double braced stand. You can't find these only used by Remo anymore. I think the quality is excellent the sound is just like Remo. I did replace the stock heads with remo clear black dot but the stock hesds were good to.

LOVE these toms.

Comments:

I wanted to expand my roto setup from the 6-10 set I bought from the big name brand. It was either buy them used for a squillion dollars or try these out. I'm so glad I did. They are just about identical to my other set. I swapped out the bolts to be able to mount them individually on Pearl style L arms and it has ignited a flame in my drumming I haven't felt since my early 20s. The sound engineers in my area are having a blast with them on stage. I'll be buying a 16/18 set next.

Roto sounds -Studio/ live

Comments:

Love the sound of these in the studio. Live is a little on the "low level side " for volume. Overall the construction of the product is well and you can replace plastic with metal, depending on your style of playing. Replace the heads with your desired style. I would recommend for diversity of sound.

Okay construction, comes with really awful heads. Replaced with clear dots right away and made a big sound improvement. Plastic holder for track is really cheaply made, but so far working.

So glad to have found these. I had been looking for these 2 sized rototoms for years to complete my set, but as a result of remo discontinuing all but 6", 8" and 10", evidently the resale market for rototoms of any other size have gone to rediculous prices. These are every bit as good as Remo for a very good price, and I am so thankful anyone is making these, and that I found them on a google search. Would go so far as to reccomend any sizes made by steve Weiss based on my experience with these so far. I was able to fit these under my existing 6" 8" and 10", and they feel great!! still trying to fit my huge 16" and 18" onto my kit somewhere!

Excellent

Comments:

I already had purchased the 6,8,10 from a private seller, and decided to create a complete set by adding the additional toms. Exact replica (slight modification to mount) of the original Remo Roto Toms, but at 1/3 the cost. If you want a great set of Roto Toms, but don't want to pay an exorbitant amount of money, this is the place to come. You won't be disappointed. Now if the can only get the 18", that would be awesome.

ROTO HEAVEN

Comments:

I have a 22x17" home studio in a very loud and live room. Been using a pearl shell kit, but the resonance of the bottom heads seemed to be triggered by anything louder than a snap of the finger. I bought these as an addition to the 6-8-10 roto toms that a friend gave me. I replaced all heads with evans red hydraulic heads - tuned, tweaked and eventually came out with a almost half volume set of toms with zero resonation that now sound killer in a recording. The quality seemed rather good considering they are made in China. I highly recommend them for drummers and percussionists alike! Just spin and tune! That so rocks with me.I can retune a total of 5 toms in under 2 minutes to find the right tones for each individual project!

Bad

Comments:

I bought the 6, 8, and 10 Roto Toms last year and they were outstanding but the 12 and 14 are awful. Stand: The stand seems fine at first, I would even say it would be great as a cymbal stand but with the Roto Toms it does nothing but rattle, I can't get it to stop. I realize other people have had this problem and sure they were perhaps able to find work arounds but they shouldn't have had to and I shouldn't have to, this is unacceptable for recording purposes or any purpose really. Bolts: The bolts that the Roto Toms screw on to aren't really bad but one of the handles was unable to be removed, I honestly wonder how they got the handle on it but I suppose this isn't really a huge deal but if I want to take handle off I should he able to. Roto Track: There isn't much to say here, many people dislike the track mount but I think it's fine, no problem. Bearing Edge: The bearing edge or whatever you want to call the thing the drumhead actually sits on is beyond dented on the 12 and isn't great on the 14. These Roto Toms do nothing but rattle even when not on the stand, that's the major theme when it comes to these Roto Toms, they rattle and rattle and rattle.. I find this to also be unacceptable and I highly doubt it's due to the tension rods, even when the Rotos are turned as tight as possible they still rattle. Stock heads: I mean they're honestly trash but I expected it as should anyone, I'm not upset about it as all drummers know of the poor quality stock heads often have. I honestly love Steve Weiss, this is a great store and their smaller Roto Toms are amazing but with the quality of the 12 and 14 Rotos I'm really upset that I waited for months for them to be back in stock only for them to be Rattle Toms.. It's for this very reason I unfortunately can't recommend them, save your money and find some used ones. Give up on these Roto Toms but don't give up on Steve Weiss.

Roto Toms from Steve Weiss Music

Comments:

This will be my second review of this purchase. The previous review was how fast the shipping and delivery was. Really quick, like a whole week sooner. Now that I've had a chance to use them, I can say besides they arrived undamaged. They are every thing I expected. Very little assembly and durable...Great sounding as well even with the original heads. I have put different heads out of personal preference to match my kit but the pens that were shipped sounded just fine. 5 stars and thank you to S.W.M. Greg

Good option!

Comments:

The short version: I'm glad I bought them! If you seek reasonably-priced alternatives to the big 'R' company's offerings, look no further than Steve Weiss rototoms. I bought the 12" and 14". Sound: Great! They sound like rototoms should--one clear note with little/no overtones, and moderate sustain. I would challenge anyone to tell the sonic difference in a blind test between these and the big R rotos. Drum construction: Solid construction of rims upper and lower. Counter hoops *might* be a lighter gauge than the other company's, but this is no problem. Drums are easy to tune up--just make sure to start with even tension on the rods all around before turning the center tension. Carriage bolts appear to be adequate, but I might replace later with SS. That's probably me being picky. Heads: The stock single-ply clear heads can only be described as adequate, but that's not a big deal. Weiss is trying to keep costs low, which we appreciate. As soon as these are worn out I'm going with Pinstripes or Emperors or G2s, etc. Stand: I'm biased, because I've never liked the track mounting option for rototoms, regardless of brand. Who mounts their drums in a straight line?? In any case, the included stand will hold both drums securely. It couldn't be described as heavy-duty, and the black "handles" used to secure the rods to the stand are cast aluminum, rather than the steel used by the other company. Still, the stand works, and I hit fairly hard. I recommend experimenting with mounting options. After all, the carriage bolts are standard 3/8-16 threads. You can go to the HW store and dream up some more useful alternatives. The Tama MC5 clamp fits the bolt fine, so you could remove the black tension handles, attach one half of an MC5 to the 3/8" bolt and the other half to a 9-10mm tom mounting rod. This is just one option. I wonder if Weiss would consider getting a 3/8-16" L-rod made, with a resin 1.5" ball to fit nearly any tom stand? That would solve the whole mounting issue. Good drums. Buy with confidence.

Great Rototoms!

Comments:

I had been watching eBay, Craig's List, etc. for some time looking for used rototoms in large sizes when I stumbled across the Steve Weiss Music website. I'm pleased to say that I not only found a source for large diameter rototoms, but the items available are new instead of used and look, feel and sound great. Steve also has them quite reasonably priced. If you are looking for 12, 14 and 16 inch rototoms (6, 8 and 10 inch are also available), check out Steve Weiss Music. On top of reasonably priced, top quality products, Steve's service is also excellent. Count me in as a very happy customer.

12 & 14 inch Roto Toms

Comments:

I've been searching all over for large size Roto Toms and finally found them at Steve Weiss. They're great! Sound good and the stand that came with them is perfect. Not to flimsy and not too overly heavy duty like the Remo stand which is just overkill and makes your hardware case too heavy. Thank you Steve Weiss!
