Although this drum isn't good for every music, it has a very decent projection and really fully resonance. On the deeper and darker sound profile side. Recommend replace the middle snappy wire to guitar wire for older models.

If you have only one snare drum this is the one to buy. The price is modest. The heads are great out of the box. The three snares are individually adjustable and easy to replace. It has a clean dry sound that satisfies most conductors and tryout juries. It is easy to play well with most orchestral repertoire ... heavy and light. It has never been rejected by any conductor. If I were to customize a snare drum it would be just like this. This is a very satisfying purchase.

If your looking for a standard piece of equipment to start a percussion career, this is the drum to buy. It sounds great in ever aspect of orchestral playing and is quite literally the nicest drum I've ever owned.

This is a superb snare drum. The quality and craftsmanship is top notch, and it sounds absolutely fantastic. Is it as good as the equivalent Black Swamp model? No...but it's VERY close, and this Pearl Philharmonic costs a fair amount less. Better value for your money in my opinion. I've owned mine for just over two years and I love it dearly. Definitely would recommend it!

This drum is phenomenal in every respect. It lives up to every expectation. I have 2 Pearl Symphonics (5.5x14 and 6.5x14) and a 4x13 Philharmonic. All are great. While I enjoy the functionality of the Symphonic snare assemblies, the Philharmonics are easier to use and always have amazing snare response at all ranges and great sound quality.

The Pearl Philharmonic drums seem to be the standard by which any other drum is held. I was skeptical at first, about purchasing this drum, and was leaning towards purchasing a Black Swamp snare instead. I cannot say what a horrible idea this would have been! The Pearl Phil 14x5 drum is the highest quality snare I've played. I got it in the classic black and have loved playing and performing on it ever since. The action allows the player to manually adjust all three different strainers to exactly the right tension the player would desire. This is a very high quality, and gorgeous, instrument.
