I read some of the reviews about these roto toms before I purchased them thinking they would be worth getting but I was disappointed after receiving them. Poor quality, and not worth the money.

I bought this set mainly due to the cost of a vintage set or a new set from Remo. I have had two other Remo set over my 39 years of playing and I am very happy with my purchase. The metal used to build the set is a little lighter than the Remo ones. I replaced the stock heads with 2 ply Evan's hydraulic heads (red) to give them some bling. I also bought the set of 12-14 and 16 inch rototoms. They sound great, just like I remembered. Overall great value and that 80's sound I was looking for.

This is my first rototom experience so I don't have comparison feedback. This setup is solid with the metal mounting bracket and double braced stand so it doesn't tend to move when played. The factory heads are good but I opted to change out for Evans Hydraulic Red Heads for a litter deeper less sustain sound and red looks that match the rest of my kit. The system definitely has a range of tuning with a simple turn of the tom. I recommend this set and would like Weiss to make a 12"/14"/16" set as well to add to my kit. I would also recommend the option to purchase new with Evans Hydraulic heads installed. I also recommend putting a logo sticker on the center post to cover the rough metal in the center of the bracket since it is highly visible. Overall a good value and fun addition to your kit!

Roto toms are exceptional value, high quality...worth every penny ! Every percussionist should have these ! Don't hesitate to order ...you will be happy you did ! Lee S

I have the full set 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16. They are well made, very affordable. The shipped heads are as all shipped heads, very inexpensive, not trash just inexpensive. And, like all shipped heads need/should be replaced. I installed Evans Blue Hydraulics. I like hydraulics much better than Remo pin stripes, pin stripes have a ringing sound at times, sometimes a little tin type of sound. Personally I like the thicker, wetter sound of hydraulics, they also feel more substantial to play.

This is the first set of Roto Toms I've owned, so I do not have a reference point of other build qualities. The fact that Remo does not make 12" Rotos any more secured my decision to purchase the Weiss models (I don't have the time to piece together vintage drums off of Ebay). I purchased 7 total Weiss Roto Toms and stands...6, 8, 8, 10, 10, 12, 12. After setting them up I spent a few days playing them. I did not like the heads right off the bat...too tinny and resonant for the project I'm using them for. I immediately purchased new Remo Black Dots for all of them. While I was waiting on the new Black Dot heads to arrive, I was a little bummed that the Weiss drums were not holding their tune very well, especially the 6 and 8's (using a Tunebot). Way too much screw movement as I struck the heads. I was experiencing as much as a full note de-tune on the 6 inch drum after just 10 minutes of playing. Just not acceptable. I called Weiss and really didn't get any extra insight. Again, not interested in returning them...just wanted to get them to work for me. After thinking about how to fix this issue, I decided to order a handful of Nylock wing nuts (these nuts have nylon inserts that resist vibration and can be found on Ebay or Amazon). The plan was to use these on the mounting bolt to lock/hold the drum hoop down to a specific tuning point. I threaded the first hoop onto the mounting bolt, then the wing nut then the second hoop and head mount. New heads came in. I mounted the 6 inch head and still had the same tuning issue after a few days. Wing nuts came in. I tore the drums apart, screwed on the wing nuts and am happy to say this fixed the tuning issue. Now the drums stay in tune (at least close enough). They still need a little adjustment once in a while, but it's good enough. It's a little bit of a pain to have to tune using the head and the wing nut together...but at least now you know how to fix them if this is also a concern to you.

I replaced the OEM batter heads, with Evans Black Chrome double ply. With minor adjustments you can tune the bad boy's in a second! I've have had the Remo roto's before, and I notice a bit of a difference in mounting and tuning that Weiss has figured out in design.It's a welcome addition add-on for sure!

Awesome toms. The get a little out of tune after playing for a while, I easily retune them almost every time I play. The stand is great and the mounting system is too.

I've had these drums for a month or two, and enjoy them a lot. Others have covered the main pros and cons, and I tend to agree. But these are great drums - they sound good in a wide range of notes, tune fairly easily and hold tune well. The stock heads aren't bad, but I will say that after putting Remo Suede Emperor Crimplocks on them, they tune twice as easily and sound twice as good to my taste. The crimplocks afford an extended upper range, letting the rotos straddle a neat textural range between typical roto-tom, frame drum, and tenor drum. These, combined with RhythmTech tension tuners (the kind that click into place for each adjustment), leave you with a set of drums capable of doing over 1.5 octaves on its own while staying in great tune and being very durable. These are 5-star drums in my book if you know what you're doing - I only docked one star for the minor gripes I mentioned and the fact that these aren't as free-rotating as others I've tried. Some powdered graphite on top of the threaded rod the inner spokes rest on might help this, though. I'll add that the stand can get VERY tall, so these can easily rise over even other drums that are set at concert height - or swap bases to make a concert snare stand like I did. Overall, a great purchase!

I just got this set of roto-toms for my birthday. They sound great and they integrate nicely with my five piece drum kit. The stand is good and sturdy and the clamp on the cross piece holds the toms firmly in place. The heads are so-so and are getting dents. I'll be putting a set of Evans on there after my next gig. For the price I don't believe you can beat these roto-toms. They're well made and they sound phenomenal. I highly recommend these as a very affordable way to supplement your drum kit sound.

The hardware portion is solid enough. There are no assembly instructions though it's not hard to figure out, especially if you look at the photo. The main issue is the heads that come with the drums are not functional in my opinion. They're much too thin and sound poor over any range of tuning tensions that we've tried. After replacing them with some Remo heads, they sound much better.

Hi everyone, I am 8 years old and just now learning to play the drums. I have a 5 piece Tama Rockstar set with Paiste hi-hats, ride, and 3 crash cymbals. My parents bought me the roto-toms for my birthday. These are great drums! They give me so much more variety to the fills I can play. I play pretty hard, and the stand stays in place. I like how I can just turn the heads and make them sound differently. I did immediately replace the heads, though. They were the only part I didn't like. Otherwise, great drums!!

Wow, excellent! These have a different and much better stand than Remos, well thought out - and seems to address the problems with the Remo stands. Still though: treat them with care when playing and transporting them as if they're fragile just to be on the safe side. I use rotos as a replacement for rack toms when recording only, because live or day to day practice can be hard on them. They might need to be mic'ed if you're a power drummer, cuz the rest of your kit will be much louder. The stock heads looked cheap to me - but they tuned up and sounded like I was playing on Mt. Olympus almost instantly so I was happy right off the bat. The roto tom sound is way cooler than regular tom sounds and when you're in the studio, when you go for a roll it sounds like you're going around the world. Good job Steve Weiss, these are a great improvement over what we've been used to.
