The Weiss 16" Roto-Tom includes a single roto-tom and all roto-tom stand parts making it an easy addition to any drum set, multiple percussion, or concert tom setup. Like all roto-toms, the drum is tuned by turning the drum on a center rod which is...
So I bought a full set of roto toms from this company. For the price, the 6-8-10-12 & 14 in toms are great. But my issue is with the 16&18. They don't tune up very well and I can't get the 18 to stop rippling. Looks like the inner spoke is not true on the bearing edge. Kind of annoying. But, like I said, for the money, they'e all in all pretty good .

RotoTom
Comments:
I recently purchased a 16" and 18" primarily to use as quasi timpani in a wind ensemble. There hasn't been sufficient time with them to be able to give a meaningful rating but do hope they work out. I do have one negative comment regarding the mechanics of the stand and the connecting bolt with the aluminum cross bar and black threaded handle. When tuning the head, I noticed the stand adjustable upright tube was quite difficult to tighten enough so it wouldn't rotate with the head. Even tightening with a wrench didn't seem enough. I also found that holding the black handle while tuning didn't hold its position and would loosen. That I fixed by first tightening the handle to the max and then adding a lock washer and nut on the tuning bolt down to the handle. That worked! I suggest that be added to your design. Thanks. I have incorporated these cool drums into my 1960 Gretch kit.

Roto Review
Comments:
These Roto Tom are fantastic, great quality and sound incredible. My only wish is that they made these in 18" models. Thank you for allowing me to complete my full Roto Tom set. Minus the 18's of course.

the BEST roto-toms since Re_o!
Comments:
I'm SO HAPPY that Steve Weiss makes these awesome large roto-toms, they sound good and look good, and they include the roto-tom mount and a stand all in a great affordable package, you just Can't go wrong with this roto-tom set!
I'm now after the 12" roto-tom, but it's only available paired with a 14" roto-tom and the mount/hardware stand... I still want it even though I already have a 14" roto, I'll use the 2nd roto-tom as a higher pitched 14" to its twin roto-tom (or I'll convert it into a snare drum roto).
I wish I could attach photos here to show my new roto-tom setup, as I'm using these large roto-toms with a 16" kick drum.
I'm also mounting my roto-toms onto a Gibraltar rack.
Overall, the build and quality of these Weiss roto-toms are very good. I'm using them with Evans Hydraulic translucent red batter heads and the roto-toms look and sound so awesome! Thank you Steve Weiss!!! Cheers!

From my review of the 12, 14";
I already had purchased the 6,8,10 from a private seller, and decided to create a complete set by adding the additional toms.
Exact replica (slight modification to mount) of the original Remo Roto Toms, but at 1/3 the cost.
If you want a great set of Roto Toms, but don't want to pay an exorbitant amount of money, this is the place to come. You won't be disappointed.
Now if the can only get the 18", that would be awesome.

I was never a big fan of the smaller roto toms BUT I always loved the depth and punch of the larger 12" , 14" and 16" toms. I sold my originals a long time ago and recently rediscovered how great they were. After searching Ebay , I could not believe how much people were asking for them . And not in great condition either. Lots of overpriced junk to be honest. I mean $300 for a beat up , rusted 16" roto tom ? Really ? Enter the Steve Weiss 16" roto. I paid $169 , had it in 3 days and brand spanking new ! This drum is a beast. Every bit as good if not better than the " other " brand. What really surprised me was the quality of the stand ! True heavy duty and built like a tank. The first thing I did was replace the head with a Black Dot Controlled Sound head. Sounds awesome ! I wanted the 12" and 14" set but they are out of stock . As soon as they get more I am getting them. That will complete my hybrid ( electronic / acoustic ) set up. I have incorporated a Yamaha Stage Custom Birch Hip Kit with Roto Toms and a Roland TD-17KVX electronic kit . Killer !

I am glad I decided to buy this roto tom . The low price had me concerned but I figured that if it was junk I would just return it for a refund. I was really surprised by the quality of this when I opened it up. It is built like a tank and has the typical cheapo head . After tuning it up , which , like all roto toms , took a little doing , it sounds good BUT I know this is going to sound great once I swap out the head for a Remo Fiberskyn . I love the sound of the fiberskyns on the 12 in , 14 in and 16 in rotos. The smaller ones ( 6,8,10 ) sound better with the Remo Pinstripes or for a " drier " sound , the Black Dot Controlled Sound heads . Anyway , I am waiting for the 12 in and 14 in to come back into stock so I can buy those too. Definitely a great drum for the price . The actual Remo Roto Toms in those sizes are ridiculously priced on ebay and those are for used ones . You can't even find new ones so forget it . These Liberty One rotos are awesome , just change the heads .

So-so
Comments:
I was expecting less than Remo quality for the price and that's what I got. Most of the tension rods were bent and I had to replace them. The stand was missing a rivet and I had to put a screw in it so I could tighten it down without spinning. The metal mounting bar has extremely sharp corners and I cut myself on it. After these issues, it works fine.

Roto tom
Comments:
Great sounding drum at a fantastic price. Gives me the depth of sound and ability to change pitch on the fly while accompanying my bass player. I have other roto toms from Steve Weiss that all perform perfectly. This 16" had a metallic rattle that I finally determined was the smaller, slide in rod of the stand rattling inside the base. Solved it by removing the bottom leg attachment and sliding several long zip ties up between the 2 tubes and reinstalling the base. The zip ties are long enough to allow me to raise and lower the drum with no problem.
Easy fix for a great sounding high quality drum!

Nice to find large roto toms again!
Comments:
This is yet another example of SWM picking up where someone else dropped off. Remo, the originator of roto toms, no longer carries the two larger sizes (16" and 18"). To find those "poor man's timpanis" you must scour ebay, and bid against others for beat up versions that are overpriced! Finding these quality instruments from SWM is great for those who love working with the versatility of different sized roto toms, or who want the larger sizes for cheap timpani work (although these drums have their limitations - volume and clarity - when placed into that role). Another example of SWM keeping percussion tools alive, when others give up!
