The Innovative Percussion IP904 James Ross Hard Glockenspiel or Xylophone Mallet produce a big round orchestral xylophone sound. The IP904 has been designed for Chicago Symphony Orchestra percussionist James Ross. Nine different models are offered...
If you are looking for a fat xylophone sound with less effort, mallets that you can really feel the weight in your hands, and double-stroke possibility, you found the perfect pair!
Works well on glock too, the mallet heads are large though, so you might hit wrong notes if the bars are too narrow.
Great for playing fast excerpts such as Porgy and Bess, and Sorcerer's Aprentice, with the minimum effort, short movements, yet big sound!

Loud; Sound Like They Look
Comments:
I'm not sure I agree with the complaints that these sound "clumsy"; I think they create a great, round, pop of sound (playing xylo in a large ensemble). I really like using them.

Very good loud mallets.
Comments:
Great loud mallets that will cut through an orchestra or wind ensemble with ease. The mallet heads are quite big to enable a loud sound BUT DONT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF. Although the heads are big they do not sound clumsy. It is just sometimes a bit awkward to play glockenspiel quickly. I am using these mallets for the planets suite on xylophone, it is just perfect for Uranus. A great loud mallet HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

clumsy sounding
Comments:
Clumsy sounding. Too big. Cumbersome. Check out the IP Orchestral series and the Chris Lamb xylo series for a better choice in loud xylo mallets.

Great mallets
Comments:
I used these mallets for xylophone while on tour and fell in love with them. They produce a full, robust and well-bodied sound that cuts through ensembles with good clarity. They are a bit front-heavy, but it didn't bother me at all. If you need a loud sound with a full body, I definitely recommend these mallets.

too big
Comments:
It would have been helpful to see on the Weiss webpage that these are 1 1/4 diameter. The sound is fine, but the size is overwhelming...

Nice and Hard
Comments:
A great hard mallet for anyone, student or professional. Definitely cuts right through an ensemble. The only thing I'd like to add is that I think these are much better to use for the 3rd movement of Shostakovich 5 rather than the IP903s mentioned in the description.

good mallets, inconsistent size
Comments:
I really like these mallets, that's why I bought a second pair after buying the first set so I had four matching mallets for a concert piece. However, when I set two down after playing the section that required four I realized that in the two pairs I own, each set has a different shaft diameter. The shafts of the pair I bought recently is much thinner than the older pair and thus, much more flimsy. I don't know how this could've happened, but be prepared for it to happen to you if you want to buy two pairs for advanced concert literature.
If you just need one pair, these are the most versatile xylophone mallets there are, they work very well on bells, temple blocks, brake drum and are very durable.
Overall, a good buy, just not impressed with the inconsistency.

perfect general xylo mallet
Comments:
don't let the word hard fool you. you can get great soft dynamics out of the instrument with this mallets. they are durable, and the shafts are flexible. they are balanced perfectly in my opinion and worth every penny. they work incredibly well and bells as well.
If you are just beginning to build your mallet collection, or just want something new, i recommend these to anyone. and highly suggest them to any percussionist. in junior high, or at a professional level.

Great sound, bad longevity
Comments:
These mallets have a huge, dense sound on xylophone and have a big, round sound on the lower octaves of the glockenspiel. My absolute go to mallet for almost any loud situation on xylo so far.
The catch: The heads of these mallets crack and break quickly. Several members of my percussion studio have had these mallets and watched them practically disintegrate over the course of a semester or two. I'm on my second pair in 12 months and they are already beginning after almost no rigorous use (the first pair did have to suffer through learning Gillingham's Concertino for Four percussionist and wind ensemble, but they didn't last the 6 weeks to the concert, and that was the first thing I used them for). I am actively searching for an alternative to these mallets as I type this.
